The Deputy Commissioner felicitated Puttaiah with a Mysuru turban, garland, shawls and fruits. Puttaiah&amp;rsquo;s family, an a joint family of 40 members that includes 21 graduates, including a law graduate, was dressed in traditional attire.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
They offered the visitors coconut and banana grown in his farm, and food prepared from the nine women members of the family. &lt;br /&gt;

Puttaiah told Express that the family has manages to earn Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; annually after adopting the multi-cropping pattern. His farm on 40 acres is a mini agriculture university as he has planted teak, mango, jackfruit and spared six acres for crops.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
He has adopted the sprinkler and drip irrigation methods to grow cash and non-cash crops like sugarcane, cotton, ragi, paddy and maize. He has since purchased land, drilled eight borewells, adopted modern water management system and cultivated on all the 40 acres.&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;em&gt;Discipline&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/em&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
Puttaiah and a majority of his family members are vegetarians and they never cook or eat, serve or drink alcohol on their farm.&lt;br /&gt;

Of his childhood, Puttaiah says, &amp;ldquo;My father Karaiah, a bonded labourer, worked for Rs 100 per annum with landlords in K Belathur. He served as a bonded labourer for many years to feed us a square meal.&amp;rdquo; He counts the government decision to give his family four acres in a rainfed area around Maral village as a &amp;ldquo;blessing in disguise&amp;rdquo;.&lt;br /&gt;

For Puttaiah, whose father was a bonded labourer in the remote village in Heggadevana Kote taluk, this Dasara will be a special one.&lt;br /&gt;

&amp;ldquo;I have watched the Dasara procession standing in the scorching sun at K R Circle to get a glimpse of the Vijayadasahmi procession and presiding deity lord Chamundeshwari. New Thought: All these years, the government and district administration drove to Bengaluru to invite writers, intellectuals, scientists and seers to the Dasara festivities. Change came this year, when the government vehicles, led by DC C Shikha, made a beeline to the Malar Dalit Colony to reach out to Puttaiah&amp;rsquo;s family.&lt;br /&gt;

The Deputy Commissioner felicitated Puttaiah with a Mysuru turban, garland, shawls and fruits. Puttaiah&amp;rsquo;s family, an a joint family of 40 members that includes 21 graduates, including a law graduate, was dressed in traditional attire.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
They offered the visitors coconut and banana grown in his farm, and food prepared from the nine women members of the family. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;em&gt;Puttaiah&amp;rsquo;s Story&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/em&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
Puttaiah told Express that the family has manages to earn Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; annually after adopting the multi-cropping pattern. His farm on 40 acres is a mini agriculture university as he has planted teak, mango, jackfruit and spared six acres for crops.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
He has adopted the sprinkler and drip irrigation methods to grow cash and non-cash crops like sugarcane, cotton, ragi, paddy and maize. He has since purchased land, drilled eight borewells, adopted modern water management system and cultivated on all the 40 acres.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;em&gt;Discipline&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/em&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
Puttaiah and a majority of his family members are vegetarians and they never cook or eat, serve or drink alcohol on their farm.&lt;br /&gt;

He served as a bonded labourer for many years to feed us a square meal.&amp;rdquo; He counts the government decision to give his family four acres in a rainfed area around Maral village as a &amp;ldquo;blessing in disguise&amp;rdquo;.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;For Puttaiah, whose father was a bonded labourer in the remote village in Heggadevana Kote taluk, this Dasara will be a special one.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;ldquo;I have watched the Dasara procession standing in the scorching sun at K R Circle to get a glimpse of the Vijayadasahmi procession and presiding deity lord Chamundeshwari. Puttaiah told Express that the family has manages to earn Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh&nbsp;&nbsp; annually after adopting the multi-cropping pattern. His farm on 40 acres is a mini agriculture university as he has planted teak, mango, jackfruit and spared six acres for crops.<br />
<br />
He has adopted the sprinkler and drip irrigation methods to grow cash and non-cash crops like sugarcane, cotton, ragi, paddy and maize. He has since purchased land, drilled eight borewells, adopted modern water management system and cultivated on all the 40 acres.<br />

</em><br />
Puttaiah and a majority of his family members are vegetarians and they never cook or eat, serve or drink alcohol on their farm.<br />
<br />
The women members cook at one place, and the family eats in a big dinning hall. All generations share their thoughts and experiences over the meals.<br />
