<font ><em>Ranchi: </em>Since the inception of the new State of Jharkhand, there has been a substantial rise in the crime. With every passing year the graph has shown a sharp rise. Ranchi tops the list with 621 cases of various crimes. These include 267 cases of murder and 243 cases of loot and dacoity. The total number of cases registered in various crimes in the past two years (&rsquo;07-&rsquo;09) shows a whopping figure of 41,289. Murder accounts to 1872 of these. The dowry related killings amount to 235 while killing in the name of practicing witchcraft amounts to 16. </font>

<font >Hazaribagh is close behind the capital in increased criminal cases. There were a total of 520 cases of dacoity of which 241 were committed on the various highway routes within the State. Again Ranchi tops the list with 81 cases and followed by Hazaribagh with 74. A total of 770 cases of arson and loot were reported. Ranchi leads yet again with 162 cases and again followed by Hazaribagh with 79. Khunti has been overall free from the rising crimes with only a meager 31 cases in total have been registered in the past two years. Murder cases form the chunk of the cases with 26. Not a single case of dacoity has been registered during the said period. Ramgarh which is close to Hazaribagh and Ranchi has surprisingly just 11 cases of murder, 4 cases of dacoity and 13 cases of loot. One more startling figure is that there are a massive 55 cases of dowry killing in Hazaribagh and 30 from Dhanbad. 12 each in Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Koderma , Bokaro and none in Khunti and Ramgarh.</font>
