&lt;em&gt;New Delhi, 18 September 2015: &lt;/em&gt;With work and social protection emerging as a major focus area, an awareness-cum-multi stake holder dialogue programme for workers of unorganized sectors was jointly conducted by NIDAN and National Union of Informal workers (NUIW) here on Friday.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Speaking at the inaugural session of the one-day colloquium on National Workshop of Informal Workers; Laws, Policies &amp;amp; Organizing for Work &amp;amp; Social Protection, Shri Bandaru Dattatreya, Hon&#039;ble Minister of Labour &amp;amp; Employment, Govt. of India said Government of India is working on strategies to deepen work protection and expand social security cover to workers of unorganized sectors in the country. He said that 40 crores unorganized workers do not have law to protect them, there is no social security and the working condition is pretty bad and this requires a movement. Not much thinking has been done about these workers. He said that he has come to assure the unorganized workers that the Government is serious about their protection and from December UVIN cards will be launched which will also include schemes for social protection. It will be smart card encompassing many benefits to the unorganized works. He said that the Prime Minister has already launched three schemes. He added that 4 lakhs 70 thousand construction workers are being covered by EPF and ESIC. Sensing large presence of women he said that all the women workers will be covered by maternity benefit scheme&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Responding to the demand for amendment of the Construction Workers Laws of 1996 to include benefits to migrant workers going to other states and to remove ceiling of 5% of administrative expense which hinders expenditure, he assured that the Government will amend the Construction workers Act.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Earlier Mr Arbind Singh, Executive director of Nidan pointed out that the 93% of workforce is in Informal sector .They are &amp;lsquo;Plinth of the Pyramid&amp;rsquo; but there isn&amp;rsquo;t any comprehensive law or Policy for the workers .They are being looked in different categories and they do not even get representation in Government forums which is exclusive domain of the organized sector. He demanded that the Minimum wages must be fixed on pan India basis and there must be dedicated officers for the unorganized workers .Citing example of Construction Workers welfare board he demanded that boards for other unorganized workers like transport workers etc must be set up.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Mr. Singh further said &amp;ldquo;The largest constituency of our workers is in the unorganized labour. Of the 46 crore workers, 14 crore are women. Every state has poverty alleviation schemes but the benefits don&amp;rsquo;t reach them. The ultimate goal of inclusive and equitable growth of the country can only be achieved by linking employment and social protection for unorganized sector.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Special Guest on the occasion was Chairman of the Odisha Construction Workers Welfare Board Subash Singh. He informed the audience how he was able to turn around the board and increased the membership of the Board from meague 1.5 lakhs to 11 lakhs in two years. He said that Odisha Government made legal changes and migrant workers from Odisha registered with the construction workers Board but working in other states are also getting benefits .He said that the Government is launching Housing Scheme with One lakh rupees to each construction worker. He gave details of the various schemes run by the Board and said that if there is will there is a way. He informed that the Board organizes awareness program for workers on time to time.&lt;br /&gt;

Mr. Rakesh Tripathi State Head NIDAN (Bihar) highlighted the need to give due recognition to the workers engaged in unorganised labour such as house maids, newspaper vendors, fruit and vegetable sellers and rag pickers so as to protect their social, economic and legal rights.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Other prominent participants included Mr Manish Gupta, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment .He said that the Governmentt is working on a comprehensive scheme for unorganized workers. He lauded the Odisha example. Another Joint Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Bipin Mallick too participated. Mr JayKant Singh of National Skill Development Council stressed the need for skill to change one&amp;rsquo;s life. Mr Vijay Kr Jha of Delhi Legal Services Authority (DLSA) assured legal help to the workers. Mr Mahavir Jain former, DG VV Giri Institute talked about need for radical changes in favor of unorganized workers.&lt;br /&gt;

$disp = &#039;&lt;div align=&quot;justify&quot;&gt;-National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) Press Release&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;em&gt;New Delhi, 18 September 2015: &lt;/em&gt;With work and social protection emerging as a major focus area, an awareness-cum-multi stake holder dialogue programme for workers of unorganized sectors was jointly conducted by NIDAN and National Union of Informal workers (NUIW) here on Friday.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Speaking at the inaugural session of the one-day colloquium on National Workshop of Informal Workers; Laws, Policies &amp;amp; Organizing for Work &amp;amp; Social Protection, Shri Bandaru Dattatreya, Hon&#039;ble Minister of Labour &amp;amp; Employment, Govt. of India said Government of India is working on strategies to deepen work protection and expand social security cover to workers of unorganized sectors in the country. He said that 40 crores unorganized workers do not have law to protect them, there is no social security and the working condition is pretty bad and this requires a movement. Not much thinking has been done about these workers. He said that he has come to assure the unorganized workers that the Government is serious about their protection and from December UVIN cards will be launched which will also include schemes for social protection. It will be smart card encompassing many benefits to the unorganized works. He said that the Prime Minister has already launched three schemes. He added that 4 lakhs 70 thousand construction workers are being covered by EPF and ESIC. Sensing large presence of women he said that all the women workers will be covered by maternity benefit scheme&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Responding to the demand for amendment of the Construction Workers Laws of 1996 to include benefits to migrant workers going to other states and to remove ceiling of 5% of administrative expense which hinders expenditure, he assured that the Government will amend the Construction workers Act.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Earlier Mr Arbind Singh, Executive director of Nidan pointed out that the 93% of workforce is in Informal sector .They are &amp;lsquo;Plinth of the Pyramid&amp;rsquo; but there isn&amp;rsquo;t any comprehensive law or Policy for the workers .They are being looked in different categories and they do not even get representation in Government forums which is exclusive domain of the organized sector. He demanded that the Minimum wages must be fixed on pan India basis and there must be dedicated officers for the unorganized workers .Citing example of Construction Workers welfare board he demanded that boards for other unorganized workers like transport workers etc must be set up.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mr. Singh further said &amp;ldquo;The largest constituency of our workers is in the unorganized labour. Of the 46 crore workers, 14 crore are women. Every state has poverty alleviation schemes but the benefits don&amp;rsquo;t reach them. He informed the audience how he was able to turn around the board and increased the membership of the Board from meague 1.5 lakhs to 11 lakhs in two years. He said that Odisha Government made legal changes and migrant workers from Odisha registered with the construction workers Board but working in other states are also getting benefits .He said that the Government is launching Housing Scheme with One lakh rupees to each construction worker. He gave details of the various schemes run by the Board and said that if there is will there is a way. 	&#039;disp&#039; =&gt; &#039;&lt;div align=&quot;justify&quot;&gt;-National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) Press Release&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;em&gt;New Delhi, 18 September 2015: &lt;/em&gt;With work and social protection emerging as a major focus area, an awareness-cum-multi stake holder dialogue programme for workers of unorganized sectors was jointly conducted by NIDAN and National Union of Informal workers (NUIW) here on Friday.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Speaking at the inaugural session of the one-day colloquium on National Workshop of Informal Workers; Laws, Policies &amp;amp; Organizing for Work &amp;amp; Social Protection, Shri Bandaru Dattatreya, Hon&#039;ble Minister of Labour &amp;amp; Employment, Govt. of India said Government of India is working on strategies to deepen work protection and expand social security cover to workers of unorganized sectors in the country. He said that 40 crores unorganized workers do not have law to protect them, there is no social security and the working condition is pretty bad and this requires a movement. Not much thinking has been done about these workers. He said that he has come to assure the unorganized workers that the Government is serious about their protection and from December UVIN cards will be launched which will also include schemes for social protection. It will be smart card encompassing many benefits to the unorganized works. He said that the Prime Minister has already launched three schemes. He added that 4 lakhs 70 thousand construction workers are being covered by EPF and ESIC. Sensing large presence of women he said that all the women workers will be covered by maternity benefit scheme&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Responding to the demand for amendment of the Construction Workers Laws of 1996 to include benefits to migrant workers going to other states and to remove ceiling of 5% of administrative expense which hinders expenditure, he assured that the Government will amend the Construction workers Act.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Earlier Mr Arbind Singh, Executive director of Nidan pointed out that the 93% of workforce is in Informal sector .They are &amp;lsquo;Plinth of the Pyramid&amp;rsquo; but there isn&amp;rsquo;t any comprehensive law or Policy for the workers .They are being looked in different categories and they do not even get representation in Government forums which is exclusive domain of the organized sector. He demanded that the Minimum wages must be fixed on pan India basis and there must be dedicated officers for the unorganized workers .Citing example of Construction Workers welfare board he demanded that boards for other unorganized workers like transport workers etc must be set up.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mr. Singh further said &amp;ldquo;The largest constituency of our workers is in the unorganized labour. Of the 46 crore workers, 14 crore are women. Every state has poverty alleviation schemes but the benefits don&amp;rsquo;t reach them. The ultimate goal of inclusive and equitable growth of the country can only be achieved by linking employment and social protection for unorganized sector.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Special Guest on the occasion was Chairman of the Odisha Construction Workers Welfare Board Subash Singh. He informed the audience how he was able to turn around the board and increased the membership of the Board from meague 1.5 lakhs to 11 lakhs in two years. He said that Odisha Government made legal changes and migrant workers from Odisha registered with the construction workers Board but working in other states are also getting benefits .He said that the Government is launching Housing Scheme with One lakh rupees to each construction worker. He gave details of the various schemes run by the Board and said that if there is will there is a way. He informed that the Board organizes awareness program for workers on time to time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mr. Rakesh Tripathi State Head NIDAN (Bihar) highlighted the need to give due recognition to the workers engaged in unorganised labour such as house maids, newspaper vendors, fruit and vegetable sellers and rag pickers so as to protect their social, economic and legal rights.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Other prominent participants included Mr Manish Gupta, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment .He said that the Governmentt is working on a comprehensive scheme for unorganized workers. Speaking at the inaugural session of the one-day colloquium on National Workshop of Informal Workers; Laws, Policies &amp;amp; Organizing for Work &amp;amp; Social Protection, Shri Bandaru Dattatreya, Hon&#039;ble Minister of Labour &amp;amp; Employment, Govt. of India said Government of India is working on strategies to deepen work protection and expand social security cover to workers of unorganized sectors in the country. He said that 40 crores unorganized workers do not have law to protect them, there is no social security and the working condition is pretty bad and this requires a movement. Not much thinking has been done about these workers. He said that he has come to assure the unorganized workers that the Government is serious about their protection and from December UVIN cards will be launched which will also include schemes for social protection. It will be smart card encompassing many benefits to the unorganized works. He said that the Prime Minister has already launched three schemes. He added that 4 lakhs 70 thousand construction workers are being covered by EPF and ESIC. $disp = &#039;&lt;div align=&quot;justify&quot;&gt;-National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) Press Release&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;em&gt;New Delhi, 18 September 2015: &lt;/em&gt;With work and social protection emerging as a major focus area, an awareness-cum-multi stake holder dialogue programme for workers of unorganized sectors was jointly conducted by NIDAN and National Union of Informal workers (NUIW) here on Friday.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Speaking at the inaugural session of the one-day colloquium on National Workshop of Informal Workers; Laws, Policies &amp;amp; Organizing for Work &amp;amp; Social Protection, Shri Bandaru Dattatreya, Hon&#039;ble Minister of Labour &amp;amp; Employment, Govt. of India said Government of India is working on strategies to deepen work protection and expand social security cover to workers of unorganized sectors in the country. He said that 40 crores unorganized workers do not have law to protect them, there is no social security and the working condition is pretty bad and this requires a movement. Not much thinking has been done about these workers. He said that he has come to assure the unorganized workers that the Government is serious about their protection and from December UVIN cards will be launched which will also include schemes for social protection. It will be smart card encompassing many benefits to the unorganized works. He said that the Prime Minister has already launched three schemes. He added that 4 lakhs 70 thousand construction workers are being covered by EPF and ESIC. Sensing large presence of women he said that all the women workers will be covered by maternity benefit scheme&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Responding to the demand for amendment of the Construction Workers Laws of 1996 to include benefits to migrant workers going to other states and to remove ceiling of 5% of administrative expense which hinders expenditure, he assured that the Government will amend the Construction workers Act.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Earlier Mr Arbind Singh, Executive director of Nidan pointed out that the 93% of workforce is in Informal sector .They are &amp;lsquo;Plinth of the Pyramid&amp;rsquo; but there isn&amp;rsquo;t any comprehensive law or Policy for the workers .They are being looked in different categories and they do not even get representation in Government forums which is exclusive domain of the organized sector. He demanded that the Minimum wages must be fixed on pan India basis and there must be dedicated officers for the unorganized workers .Citing example of Construction Workers welfare board he demanded that boards for other unorganized workers like transport workers etc must be set up.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mr. Singh further said &amp;ldquo;The largest constituency of our workers is in the unorganized labour. He said that Odisha Government made legal changes and migrant workers from Odisha registered with the construction workers Board but working in other states are also getting benefits .He said that the Government is launching Housing Scheme with One lakh rupees to each construction worker. He gave details of the various schemes run by the Board and said that if there is will there is a way. 	'disp' => '<div align="justify">-National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) Press Release<br /><br /><em>New Delhi, 18 September 2015: </em>With work and social protection emerging as a major focus area, an awareness-cum-multi stake holder dialogue programme for workers of unorganized sectors was jointly conducted by NIDAN and National Union of Informal workers (NUIW) here on Friday.<br /><br />Speaking at the inaugural session of the one-day colloquium on National Workshop of Informal Workers; Laws, Policies &amp; Organizing for Work &amp; Social Protection, Shri Bandaru Dattatreya, Hon'ble Minister of Labour &amp; Employment, Govt. of India said Government of India is working on strategies to deepen work protection and expand social security cover to workers of unorganized sectors in the country. He said that 40 crores unorganized workers do not have law to protect them, there is no social security and the working condition is pretty bad and this requires a movement. Not much thinking has been done about these workers. He said that he has come to assure the unorganized workers that the Government is serious about their protection and from December UVIN cards will be launched which will also include schemes for social protection. It will be smart card encompassing many benefits to the unorganized works. He said that the Prime Minister has already launched three schemes. He added that 4 lakhs 70 thousand construction workers are being covered by EPF and ESIC. Sensing large presence of women he said that all the women workers will be covered by maternity benefit scheme<br /><br />Responding to the demand for amendment of the Construction Workers Laws of 1996 to include benefits to migrant workers going to other states and to remove ceiling of 5% of administrative expense which hinders expenditure, he assured that the Government will amend the Construction workers Act.<br /><br />Earlier Mr Arbind Singh, Executive director of Nidan pointed out that the 93% of workforce is in Informal sector .They are &lsquo;Plinth of the Pyramid&rsquo; but there isn&rsquo;t any comprehensive law or Policy for the workers .They are being looked in different categories and they do not even get representation in Government forums which is exclusive domain of the organized sector. He demanded that the Minimum wages must be fixed on pan India basis and there must be dedicated officers for the unorganized workers .Citing example of Construction Workers welfare board he demanded that boards for other unorganized workers like transport workers etc must be set up.<br /><br />Mr. Singh further said &ldquo;The largest constituency of our workers is in the unorganized labour. Of the 46 crore workers, 14 crore are women. Every state has poverty alleviation schemes but the benefits don&rsquo;t reach them. The ultimate goal of inclusive and equitable growth of the country can only be achieved by linking employment and social protection for unorganized sector.<br /><br />Special Guest on the occasion was Chairman of the Odisha Construction Workers Welfare Board Subash Singh. He informed the audience how he was able to turn around the board and increased the membership of the Board from meague 1.5 lakhs to 11 lakhs in two years. He said that Odisha Government made legal changes and migrant workers from Odisha registered with the construction workers Board but working in other states are also getting benefits .He said that the Government is launching Housing Scheme with One lakh rupees to each construction worker.
