It will be on a pilot basis under a Central scheme. State cabinet on Tuesday decided to allocate Rs 22.25 crore for the project estimated to cost Rs 445 crore.</p><p align="justify">The Union government has decided to give a big push to solar energy and fixed a target of distributing one lakh solar-powered pumps in the country. It has provided Rs 400 crore to subsidize the plan. After the BJP-led government took over in the state, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis followed the Central plan closely and decided to implement it on a pilot basis in Maharashtra. As a result, the earlier quota of 4600 pumps for the state was increased to 7540.</p><p align="justify">The state incurs a huge financial burden in subsidizing energy supply to farm pumps. Most of the power used is from thermal power stations. The new government was keen on reducing this stress on thermal power plants and financial implications by promoting renewable energy through solar pumps. The government wants marginal farmers with less than 5 acre holding, especially in suicide-prone six district of Vidarbha as well those farmers who have been waiting for years to get power connection for farm pumps, to take advantage of the scheme. Under it, the beneficiary farmer has to pay only 5% of the total cost of the solar pump, the rest is paid by the Centre and the state.</p><p align="justify">While state power utility Mahavitaran will implement the scheme, Maha Urja is to provide technical support. The agriculture department, Zilla Parishad and the district collectorate will also be involved in selecting beneficiaries and priority listing. Pumps meeting specifications fixed by the Centre are to be procured from manufacturers through e-tendering by the state.</p><p align="justify">In another decision, the cabinet raised the pecuniary appellate jurisdiction of district courts from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 1 crore. The step is likely to reduce pendency in high courts and other courts in the state and benefit common litigants. The cabinet also offered condolences to former deputy chief minister and NCP leader R R Patil who died last week in Mumbai.</p>               </font>
