                <div style="text-align: justify">-The Times of India</div><div style="text-align: justify">&nbsp;</div><p style="text-align: justify"><em>MUZAFFARPUR: </em>Union health minister Harsh Vardhan on Sunday claimed at Kanti primary health centre (PHC) near here that 92% of the children affected by acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) had not been administered vaccination for Japanese Encephalitis (JE).</p><p style="text-align: justify">Launching a two-day JE vaccination drive in Muzaffarpur district from Kanti, the minister said it is a subject of research whether the AES is a form of JE or not. The researchers must focus on establishing any link between AES and JE. Nearly 96,400 children of the vulnerable age group would be given JE vaccination in the district till Monday.</p><p style="text-align: justify">Researchers from Pune and Delhi had already ruled out that the disease is JE even though some of its symptoms have similarity with JE. On the other hand, the district immunization officer (DIO), Muzaffarpur, Dr Dineshwar Singh, claimed that the entire district had already been covered with JE vaccination in the district under a special drive last December.</p><p style="text-align: justify">However, the Union minister told the media at Kanti that 70% of the children in the vulnerable age group had not been covered under the routine JE vaccination in the country. It is a big challenge for all the state governments concerned to complete 100% vaccination to prevent JE in the country.</p><p style="text-align: justify">The Union health minister also visited the additional primary health centre located at Shahbajpur village under Kanti block and talked to some doctors and nursing staff obviously to know their level of knowledge particularly about handling of AES cases and pregnancy. While doing a round of the PHC at Kanti, he talked to the PHC in-charge Dr U C Khan to garner information about the availability of medicine at the centre.</p><p style="text-align: justify">Harsh Vardhan then remarked that the intention of the government officers of the district was good but the facilities given by the government were not reaching the beneficiaries at the grass root level. He advised the administration to confirm whether their decisions or directives are being carried out properly or not. Bihar health secretary Anand Kishore, principal secretary Dipak Kumar besides Muzaffarpur MLA Suresh Sharma and Aurai MLA Ram Surat Rai accompanied the Union minister to Kanti.</p>               </font>

The researchers must focus on establishing any link between AES and JE. Nearly 96,400 children of the vulnerable age group would be given JE vaccination in the district till Monday.</p><p style="text-align: justify">Researchers from Pune and Delhi had already ruled out that the disease is JE even though some of its symptoms have similarity with JE. On the other hand, the district immunization officer (DIO), Muzaffarpur, Dr Dineshwar Singh, claimed that the entire district had already been covered with JE vaccination in the district under a special drive last December.</p><p style="text-align: justify">However, the Union minister told the media at Kanti that 70% of the children in the vulnerable age group had not been covered under the routine JE vaccination in the country. $disp = '<div style="text-align: justify">-The Times of India</div><div style="text-align: justify">&nbsp;</div><p style="text-align: justify"><em>MUZAFFARPUR: </em>Union health minister Harsh Vardhan on Sunday claimed at Kanti primary health centre (PHC) near here that 92% of the children affected by acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) had not been administered vaccination for Japanese Encephalitis (JE).</p><p style="text-align: justify">Launching a two-day JE vaccination drive in Muzaffarpur district from Kanti, the minister said it is a subject of research whether the AES is a form of JE or not. The researchers must focus on establishing any link between AES and JE. Nearly 96,400 children of the vulnerable age group would be given JE vaccination in the district till Monday.</p><p style="text-align: justify">Researchers from Pune and Delhi had already ruled out that the disease is JE even though some of its symptoms have similarity with JE. On the other hand, the district immunization officer (DIO), Muzaffarpur, Dr Dineshwar Singh, claimed that the entire district had already been covered with JE vaccination in the district under a special drive last December.</p><p style="text-align: justify">However, the Union minister told the media at Kanti that 70% of the children in the vulnerable age group had not been covered under the routine JE vaccination in the country. It is a big challenge for all the state governments concerned to complete 100% vaccination to prevent JE in the country.</p><p style="text-align: justify">The Union health minister also visited the additional primary health centre located at Shahbajpur village under Kanti block and talked to some doctors and nursing staff obviously to know their level of knowledge particularly about handling of AES cases and pregnancy. While doing a round of the PHC at Kanti, he talked to the PHC in-charge Dr U C Khan to garner information about the availability of medicine at the centre.</p><p style="text-align: justify">Harsh Vardhan then remarked that the intention of the government officers of the district was good but the facilities given by the government were not reaching the beneficiaries at the grass root level. He advised the administration to confirm whether their decisions or directives are being carried out properly or not. Bihar health secretary Anand Kishore, principal secretary Dipak Kumar besides Muzaffarpur MLA Suresh Sharma and Aurai MLA Ram Surat Rai accompanied the Union minister to Kanti.</p>'
