Despite all exits of Osmania University being sealed to not let in the outsiders, the situation turned so violent that Meena and her friends had to be escorted out of the campus in a van with paramilitary personnel. &amp;ldquo;Meanwhile the situation in the campus had become violent. A televsion channel&amp;rsquo;s OB van was set on fire and there was continuous stone pelting.&amp;rdquo;&lt;br /&gt;

After having returned to her friend&amp;rsquo;s place in Hyderabad, Meena logged on to twitter and tweeted about the festival. She evoked several angry responses. A series of strongly worded tweets that indicated a serious threat followed.&lt;br /&gt;

&amp;ldquo;A lot of name calling happened and then I was worried as they started threatening to assault my modesty, attack me with acid and one of them even wanted to put a price put on my head,&amp;rdquo; Meena said.&lt;br /&gt;

The Network of Women in Media issued a strong statement in support of Meena and wrote about the oppressive mandate of these individuals who threaten the fundamental freedom of expression.&lt;br /&gt;

&amp;ldquo;I have met the commissioner of police of Chennai, J.K. Tripathy, who was very responsive and has promised action.&lt;br /&gt;

I have lodged a formal complaint against one Siddharth Shanker (twitter handle @siddh108) who tweeted violently against me with threats to my life and assault on my modesty by a &amp;lsquo;gang&amp;rsquo; on live television,&amp;rdquo; Meena said.&lt;br /&gt;

The case will be handled by the assistant commissioner of police. The cyber crime ward is also working on nabbing those who issued threats to Meena online.

Meena attended the event to show her support for the event.<br /><br />&ldquo;Even as I went to the venue I noticed a large police and paramilitary presence and even riot control vehicles,&rdquo; said a perturbed Meena. &ldquo;I missed the speeches but had the beef biriyani and just as I finished people who had gathered outside the university began pelting stones at us.&rdquo;<br /><br />Despite all exits of Osmania University being sealed to not let in the outsiders, the situation turned so violent that Meena and her friends had to be escorted out of the campus in a van with paramilitary personnel. &ldquo;Meanwhile the situation in the campus had become violent. Tripathy, who was very responsive and has promised action.<br /><br />I have lodged a formal complaint against one Siddharth Shanker (twitter handle @siddh108) who tweeted violently against me with threats to my life and assault on my modesty by a &lsquo;gang&rsquo; on live television,&rdquo; Meena said.<br /><br />The case will be handled by the assistant commissioner of police. The cyber crime ward is also working on nabbing those who issued threats to Meena online.</div>'

A beef affair with violence-Lakshmi Krupa

Meena Kandasamy, one of Chennai’s well-known activists and poets, was recently in Hyderabad delivering a few lectures at NALSAR and other institutions about Ambedkar, when she heard about a beef festival at Osmania University being organised by the Telengana Students’ Association and the Progressive Students Union. Several students and teachers had gathered to support the event organised by the dalit students and also as a symbol of admonishing cultural oppression from upper castes.
