The Constitution mandates specific protections for adivasis and adivasi lands and gives specific guarantees for protection of customs and customary laws. The tribal representation drew the attention of the President to three specific projects in Chotanagpur region of Jharkhand &amp;ldquo;where these rights are being diluted by the Central and State Governments.&amp;rdquo;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;ldquo;What is common in these projects is that the role of the gram sabha is being virtually eliminated. The projects are against the Forest Rights Act which specify that recognition of rights in land in occupation of adivasis and also recognition of community rights in forests coming within any project is a prerequisite before any other process is begun for any project,&amp;rdquo; the delegation said in a memorandum to the President.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The delegation was led by CPI (M) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat and Jharkhand Adivasi Adhikar Manch Secretary Praful Linda. The delegation also comprised adivasi leaders of the Chotanagpur region including Mohan Oraon, Dr. Ashok, Anita Tirkey, Deepika Bara, Aloys Minz, Surendra Oraon, Mukesh Oraon and Fildri Toppo.&lt;br /&gt;

In the last one year, tribal communities have held several massive protests in Jharkhand being ruled by BJP. In October last year, at least half a dozen Adivasis were killed in police firing in Hazaribagh district when their protest had turned violent.&lt;br /&gt;

The tribal representation drew the attention of the President to three specific projects in Chotanagpur region of Jharkhand &ldquo;where these rights are being diluted by the Central and State Governments.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;What is common in these projects is that the role of the gram sabha is being virtually eliminated. The projects are against the Forest Rights Act which specify that recognition of rights in land in occupation of adivasis and also recognition of community rights in forests coming within any project is a prerequisite before any other process is begun for any project,&rdquo; the delegation said in a memorandum to the President.<br /><br />The delegation was led by CPI (M) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat and Jharkhand Adivasi Adhikar Manch Secretary Praful Linda. The tribal representation drew the attention of the President to three specific projects in Chotanagpur region of Jharkhand &amp;ldquo;where these rights are being diluted by the Central and State Governments.&amp;rdquo;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;ldquo;What is common in these projects is that the role of the gram sabha is being virtually eliminated. Adivasis from BJP-ruled Jharkhand Urge President To Stop Eviction of 3 Lakh People

NEW DELHI: As about three lakh people from tribal communities in Jharkhand are facing eviction from their homes due to some projects, their representative group met President of India Ram Nath Kovind here on Friday and sought his intervention to stop the eviction. The Constitution mandates specific protections for adivasis and adivasi lands and gives specific guarantees for protection of customs and customary laws. The tribal representation drew the attention of the President to three specific projects in Chotanagpur region of Jharkhand “where these rights are being diluted by the Central and State Governments.” “What is common in these projects is that the role of the gram sabha is being virtually eliminated. The projects are against the Forest Rights Act which specify that recognition of rights in land in occupation of adivasis and also recognition of community rights in forests coming within any project is a prerequisite before any other process is begun for any project,” the delegation said in a memorandum to the President. The delegation was led by CPI (M) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat and Jharkhand Adivasi Adhikar Manch Secretary Praful Linda. The delegation also comprised adivasi leaders of the Chotanagpur region including Mohan Oraon, Dr. Ashok, Anita Tirkey, Deepika Bara, Aloys Minz, Surendra Oraon, Mukesh Oraon and Fildri Toppo. In the last one year, tribal communities have held several massive protests in Jharkhand being ruled by BJP.
