Though the CAG in its initial review of rail projects in January-February 2010 revealed substantial delay at every stage, in April the government auditor found satisfactory progress in construction of rail overbridges and underbridges and development of facilities at railway stations.&lt;br /&gt;

&amp;quot;We were especially heartened to see the progress in infrastructure works and provision of passengers amenities at New Delhi station,&amp;quot; the report said. The New Delhi station was recently conferred the &amp;quot;National Tourism Award&amp;quot; in the category of Best Tourist Friendly Railway Station by the tourism ministry.&lt;br /&gt;

The station has witnessed several changes in passenger amenities, facade and related infrastructure as part of the station&#039;s up-gradation project undertaken by Northern Railway for the Games. A new waiting hall and a third foot overbridge was constructed, along with upgradation of passenger services by provisioning of LED and LCD display boards for train information.                 <br /><div align="justify">A rare praise for the UPA government in the 743-page CAG report on the Commonwealth Games was courtesy Railways.<br /><br />Applauding the work done by the state-run transporter, the government auditor mentioned that all the major activities relating to the makeover of New Delhi Railway Station were completed before the Games and within the budget.<br /><br />Though the CAG in its initial review of rail projects in January-February 2010 revealed substantial delay at every stage, in April the government auditor found satisfactory progress in construction of rail overbridges and underbridges and development of facilities at railway stations.<br /><br />&quot;We were especially heartened to see the progress in infrastructure works and provision of passengers amenities at New Delhi station,&quot; the report said. $disp = '<br /><div align="justify">A rare praise for the UPA government in the 743-page CAG report on the Commonwealth Games was courtesy Railways.<br /><br />Applauding the work done by the state-run transporter, the government auditor mentioned that all the major activities relating to the makeover of New Delhi Railway Station were completed before the Games and within the budget.<br /><br />Though the CAG in its initial review of rail projects in January-February 2010 revealed substantial delay at every stage, in April the government auditor found satisfactory progress in construction of rail overbridges and underbridges and development of facilities at railway stations.<br /><br />&quot;We were especially heartened to see the progress in infrastructure works and provision of passengers amenities at New Delhi station,&quot; the report said. This was all the more creditable considering the fact that about 290 trains pass through the station every day with around five lakh passengers commuting on a daily basis, it said.<br /><br />Railway officials were upbeat with the &quot;rare&quot; compliment for any government agency in the voluminous CAG report on the mega sporting event held in Capital.<br /><br />&quot;We worked in a target-oriented manner with emphasis on keeping the expenditure as low as possible,&quot; said Ashwini Lohani, divisional railway manager of Delhi division, when asked about how railways was able to meet the deadline within limited spending despite a poor start.<br /><br />&quot;A team of dedicated engineers made it possible,&quot; Lohani added.<br /><br />Lohani said the focus was on checking road traffic chaos by revamping the circulating area, besides beautification, putting up quality signages, installing a passenger information system and repairing broken platforms along with construction of overbridges.<br /><br />The New Delhi station was recently conferred the &quot;National Tourism Award&quot; in the category of Best Tourist Friendly Railway Station by the tourism ministry.<br /><br />The station has witnessed several changes in passenger amenities, facade and related infrastructure as part of the station's up-gradation project undertaken by Northern Railway for the Games. A new waiting hall and a third foot overbridge was constructed, along with upgradation of passenger services by provisioning of LED and LCD display boards for train information. Modular stalls, stainless steel dustbins, benches and water booths have also contributed to the hygiene and look of the station. &quot;We used a lot of steel as it looks better and maintenance is easy,&quot; Lohani said.<br /><br />Battery operated trolleys and escalators were also started at the station for the convenience of physically challenged persons and senior citizens.</div>'
