Though the State has seen some improvement in crop production, the irrigation sector, a main constituent in agricultural growth, is yet to be improved in the State. &nbsp;</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">Sources said that mere focus on crop production without overhauling irrigation facilities will not propel the State&rsquo;s agricultural growth.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">The projected outlay for 11th Five Year Plan (2007-12) in the major or medium irrigation sector is Rs 75502.77 lakh. The physical target for the 11th plan is fixed at 16,1,739 hectares including revival of lost potential. Seven major or medium projects under the 11th Five Year Plan are currently being implemented in the State.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">Sources said that during 2007-08, one medium irrigation project, namely Pahumara Irrigation Project, had been completed with the creation of an additional potential of 11,751 hectares. &ldquo;Modernization of Jamuna Major Irrigation Project has been completed during 2008-09 with AIBP funding and it has been able to provide irrigation facilities to 12,700 hectares of cultivated land. Modernization of Sukla Irrigation Project has been completed with NABARD funding during 2009-10 reviving a lost potential of 24400 hectares,&rdquo; said the sources.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">Sources further said that the Irrigation Department was under the direction to take a pragmatic time-bound and purposeful approach, and accordingly, an action plan had been chalked out to complete four schemes by March 2012 within the 11th Plan period.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">The actual expenditure up to March 2011 was Rs 20908.17 lakh and the physical achievement was 31,546 hectares and the revival of lost potential was 24,400 hectares. The projected outlay for minor irrigation sector was Rs 96,730 lakh of which AIBP component was Rs 48,524 lakh. The physical target was fixed at 14,2,539 hectares. Up to March 2011, the actual expenditure was Rs 85212.58 lakh and physical achievement was 71,925 hectares.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">It may be mentioned here that the measures taken by the State Irrigation Department led by its minister Dr Ardhendu Kumar Dey for the revival of the State&rsquo;s irrigation sector in the last one year has also failed to yield much result.&nbsp;</div>               </font>

The physical target for the 11th plan is fixed at 16,1,739 hectares including revival of lost potential. Seven major or medium projects under the 11th Five Year Plan are currently being implemented in the State.

Sources said that during 2007-08, one medium irrigation project, namely Pahumara Irrigation Project, had been completed with the creation of an additional potential of 11,751 hectares. &ldquo;Modernization of Jamuna Major Irrigation Project has been completed during 2008-09 with AIBP funding and it has been able to provide irrigation facilities to 12,700 hectares of cultivated land. Modernization of Sukla Irrigation Project has been completed with NABARD funding during 2009-10 reviving a lost potential of 24400 hectares,&rdquo; said the sources.

Sources further said that the Irrigation Department was under the direction to take a pragmatic time-bound and purposeful approach, and accordingly, an action plan had been chalked out to complete four schemes by March 2012 within the 11th Plan period.

The actual expenditure up to March 2011 was Rs 20908.17 lakh and the physical achievement was 31,546 hectares and the revival of lost potential was 24,400 hectares. The projected outlay for minor irrigation sector was Rs 96,730 lakh of which AIBP component was Rs 48,524 lakh. The physical target was fixed at 14,2,539 hectares. Up to March 2011, the actual expenditure was Rs 85212.58 lakh and physical achievement was 71,925 hectares.
