Patna district police has 1,500 such bodyguards.</p><p align="justify">One constable used to be assigned to each MLA or MLC, but the scale was enhanced to three after BJP MLA Raj Kishore Keshri was stabbed to death at his Purnia residence on January 4, 2011. Feeling that it was impossible for a single constable to shadow a VIP for 24 hours the government allocated cops with carbines to each legislator on eight hours shifts.</p><p align="justify">Ministers are entitled to have a personal security officer of the rank of ASI or SI apart from the three bodyguards. The chief minister is provided Z-plus security with a separate battalion of Special Security Guards, special branch sleuths and district policemen on guard detail. All the bodyguards of the CM are trained at the VIP Training Institute of Central Industrial Security Force in Rajasthan.</p><p align="justify">Private individuals fearing threat from criminals also approach the police headquarters for bodyguards for payment.
