'Blatant misogynist material': Sonia Gandhi seeks apology from CBSE for 'regressive' question

Calling the controversial passage in Saturday's CBSE English question paper 'blatantly misogynist', Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi in Lok Sabha sought an apology from the Board.

Congress interim President slammed the ' shockingly regressive’ passage regarding women in the CBSE's English exam question paper during the Zero Hour in Lok Sabha. She also sought an apology from CBSE.

The Class 10 CBSE English question paper triggered a controversy on Saturday for allegedly promoting "gender stereotyping" and supporting "regressive notions".

“The passage contains atrocious statements, such as ‘women gaining independence is the main reason for a wide variety of social and family problems’. The entire passage is riddled with such condemnable ideas and the questions that follow are equally nonsensical,” Sonia Gandhi said.

“I add my voice to the concerns of students, parents, teachers, and I raise strong objections to such blatant misogynist material finding its way into an important examination conducted by CBSE. It reflects extremely poorly on the standards of education and testing and it goes against all norms and principles of a progressive and empowered society,” she added.
