A bench of Justices G S Singhvi, Aftab Alam and C K Prasad said instead of enhancing the &amp;quot;inadequate&amp;quot; punishment imposed in 2008 by the Delhi High Court on a &amp;quot;remorseless&amp;quot; Anand, it would be more useful to use his expertise through legal aid to help poor litigants.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The bench accepted Anand&#039;s offer and directed him to &amp;quot;place his professional services at the disposal of the Delhi Court Legal Services Authority which, in coordination with the Delhi HC Legal Services Authority, will frame a scheme to avail of the contemnor&#039;s services for doing cases of undefended accused whether at the trial or at the appellate stage&amp;quot;.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The court said Anand could resume his professional services at the end of one year but told him that the cases entrusted to him under the legal aid services would have to be done free of cost till completion of the trial proceedings.&lt;br /&gt;

&amp;quot;In terms of his undertaking, the contemnor shall not do any kind of professional work charging any fees or for any personal considerations for one year from today. The money may be used for developing the infrastructure of the college, such as classrooms, library, computer facilities or moot court facilities, etc. The BCI will ensure proper utilization of the money,&amp;quot; it said before closing the proceedings against Anand.&lt;br /&gt;

The HC had on August 21, 2008 held Anand guilty under the Contempt of Court Act and debarred him from practicing in the HC and courts subordinate to it for four months.                 <div align="justify">-The Times of India<br /><br />For attempting to influence prosecution witness during trial in the BMW hit and run case, the Supreme Court ordered ex-senior advocate R K Anand to pay Rs 21 lakh for setting up a library in a law college meant for the underprivileged and also render free professional service to poor litigants for a year.<br /><br />A bench of Justices G S Singhvi, Aftab Alam and C K Prasad said instead of enhancing the &quot;inadequate&quot; punishment imposed in 2008 by the Delhi High Court on a &quot;remorseless&quot; Anand, it would be more useful to use his expertise through legal aid to help poor litigants.<br /><br />The bench accepted Anand's offer and directed him to &quot;place his professional services at the disposal of the Delhi Court Legal Services Authority which, in coordination with the Delhi HC Legal Services Authority, will frame a scheme to avail of the contemnor's services for doing cases of undefended accused whether at the trial or at the appellate stage&quot;.<br /><br />The court said Anand could resume his professional services at the end of one year but told him that the cases entrusted to him under the legal aid services would have to be done free of cost till completion of the trial proceedings.<br /><br />&quot;In terms of his undertaking, the contemnor shall not do any kind of professional work charging any fees or for any personal considerations for one year from today. He shall exclusively devote his professional services to help pro bono the accused who, on account of lack of resources, are not in a position to engage any lawyer to defend themselves and have no means to have their cases effectively presented before the court,&quot; the bench said.<br /><br />The court asked Anand to deposit Rs 21 lakh with Bar Council of India (BCI) within a week. &quot;The BCI shall give the money to a law college preferably situated at a muffassil (rural) place and attended mostly by children from the underprivileged and deprived sections of society. The money may be used for developing the infrastructure of the college, such as classrooms, library, computer facilities or moot court facilities, etc. The BCI will ensure proper utilization of the money,&quot; it said before closing the proceedings against Anand.<br /><br />The HC had on August 21, 2008 held Anand guilty under the Contempt of Court Act and debarred him from practicing in the HC and courts subordinate to it for four months. It had said that he had forfeited his designation as senior advocate and recommended to the full court to divest him of the honour. It had also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on him.<br /><br />More than 13 years after he mowed down six people while driving a BMW in a drunken state, the Supreme Court on August 4 had convicted Sanjeev Nanda for an offence higher than rash and negligent driving and asked him to pay an additional Rs 50 lakh to a public fund for accident victims and do community service for two more years. <br /></div>               </font>

&lt;br /&gt;
A bench of Justices G S Singhvi, Aftab Alam and C K Prasad said instead of enhancing the &amp;quot;inadequate&amp;quot; punishment imposed in 2008 by the Delhi High Court on a &amp;quot;remorseless&amp;quot; Anand, it would be more useful to use his expertise through legal aid to help poor litigants.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The bench accepted Anand&#039;s offer and directed him to &amp;quot;place his professional services at the disposal of the Delhi Court Legal Services Authority which, in coordination with the Delhi HC Legal Services Authority, will frame a scheme to avail of the contemnor&#039;s services for doing cases of undefended accused whether at the trial or at the appellate stage&amp;quot;.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The court said Anand could resume his professional services at the end of one year but told him that the cases entrusted to him under the legal aid services would have to be done free of cost till completion of the trial proceedings.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;quot;In terms of his undertaking, the contemnor shall not do any kind of professional work charging any fees or for any personal considerations for one year from today. He shall exclusively devote his professional services to help pro bono the accused who, on account of lack of resources, are not in a position to engage any lawyer to defend themselves and have no means to have their cases effectively presented before the court,&amp;quot; the bench said.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The court asked Anand to deposit Rs 21 lakh with Bar Council of India (BCI) within a week. &amp;quot;The BCI shall give the money to a law college preferably situated at a muffassil (rural) place and attended mostly by children from the underprivileged and deprived sections of society. The money may be used for developing the infrastructure of the college, such as classrooms, library, computer facilities or moot court facilities, etc. The BCI will ensure proper utilization of the money,&amp;quot; it said before closing the proceedings against Anand.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The HC had on August 21, 2008 held Anand guilty under the Contempt of Court Act and debarred him from practicing in the HC and courts subordinate to it for four months. It had said that he had forfeited his designation as senior advocate and recommended to the full court to divest him of the honour. It had also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on him.&lt;br /&gt;

More than 13 years after he mowed down six people while driving a BMW in a drunken state, the Supreme Court on August 4 had convicted Sanjeev Nanda for an offence higher than rash and negligent driving and asked him to pay an additional Rs 50 lakh to a public fund for accident victims and do community service for two more years. &lt;br /&gt;

The court asked Anand to deposit Rs 21 lakh with Bar Council of India (BCI) within a week. &quot;The BCI shall give the money to a law college preferably situated at a muffassil (rural) place and attended mostly by children from the underprivileged and deprived sections of society. The money may be used for developing the infrastructure of the college, such as classrooms, library, computer facilities or moot court facilities, etc. The BCI will ensure proper utilization of the money,&quot; it said before closing the proceedings against Anand.<br />

The HC had on August 21, 2008 held Anand guilty under the Contempt of Court Act and debarred him from practicing in the HC and courts subordinate to it for four months. It had said that he had forfeited his designation as senior advocate and recommended to the full court to divest him of the honour. It had also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on him.<br />

More than 13 years after he mowed down six people while driving a BMW in a drunken state, the Supreme Court on August 4 had convicted Sanjeev Nanda for an offence higher than rash and negligent driving and asked him to pay an additional Rs 50 lakh to a public fund for accident victims and do community service for two more years. <br />
