Interestingly, it is found that about 40 per cent of the 18 lakh gas consumers require just six cylinders a year while the average APL families need 11 to 12 gas cylinders.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">As the Centre has limited the subsidised cylinders to six, the APL families would have to purchase additional cylinders at higher price and are likely to pay about Rs400 extra per additional cylinder.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">However, the state government feels that the BPL families may not be able to take the burden.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">Therefore, the state may take the burden for the BPL families.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">While there is controversy over the exact number of BPL families in the state, the government will take note of such families which have already availed of gas connections.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">It is yet to decide whether to extend the proposed facility to the new BPL consumers.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">It is found that most of the 40 lakh plus BPL families live in rural areas and they meet their fuel demand by using wood or something else available in rural pockets.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">However, the BPL families who live in urban pockets have no alternative than depending on LPG cylinders for cooking.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div>'
