Addressing presspersons after the Cabinet meeting, Law Minister S. Suresh Kumar said that the Cabinet approved a special rate based on the recommendations of an advisory committee on compensation headed by the Bangalore Urban Deputy Commissioner.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
While farmers in Gonipura and Thippur would now get Rs. 41 lakh an acre, those in Shigehalli would get Rs. 40 lakh an acre.&lt;br /&gt;

The Cabinet decision is apparently aimed at silencing the campaign launched by the Janata Dal (Secular) accusing NICE of acquiring land in excess of what had been agreed upon and farmers being given a raw deal.&lt;br /&gt;

On April 3, the Supreme Court made it clear to the State Government that it must implement the BMIC Project according to its 2006 judgment without further delay. It told the State Government to complete the survey (in phase C) for issuing a notification for acquiring land for the road. The Cabinet decided to develop 15,000 km of main roads in the State at a cost of Rs. 13,363 crore in the next two years.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The State&#039;s share is around Rs. 8,000 crore and the remainder will be provided by the Union Government.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Mr. Suresh Kumar said that district-to-district, district-to-taluk and taluk-to-taluk roads would be given priority.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Of the 15,000 km of roads to be developed, 1,428 km will be tolled. The State will raise Rs. 2,400 crore from private sources, while Karnataka Road Development Corporation Ltd., which will execute the project, will generate Rs. 2,000 crore, Mr. Suresh Kumar said.&lt;br /&gt;

                <em><br /></em><div align="justify"><em>Compensation for land for BMIC hiked to Rs. 40 lakh an acre <br /></em><br />Following widespread protests and demands by farmers for higher compensation for land acquired for the controversial Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project, the State Cabinet on Thursday decided to increase the compensation paid for 1,916 acres acquired in three villages by the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE), which is executing the expressway project.<br /><br />Land in Gonipura and Thippur located near Kengeri in Bangalore South taluk was acquired in 1998 by NICE for Rs. 1.5 lakh an acre, and for Rs. 1 lakh an acre in Shigehalli.<br /><br />Addressing presspersons after the Cabinet meeting, Law Minister S. Suresh Kumar said that the Cabinet approved a special rate based on the recommendations of an advisory committee on compensation headed by the Bangalore Urban Deputy Commissioner.<br /><br />While farmers in Gonipura and Thippur would now get Rs. 41 lakh an acre, those in Shigehalli would get Rs. 40 lakh an acre.<br /><br />NICE would pay the compensation, he said.<br /><br />Farmers from whom less than an acre had been acquired by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) would get a 30 x 40 sq ft site in the developed area and those from whom more than an acre had been acquired would get a 40 x 60 sq ft site, the Minister said.<br /><br />The Cabinet decision is apparently aimed at silencing the campaign launched by the Janata Dal (Secular) accusing NICE of acquiring land in excess of what had been agreed upon and farmers being given a raw deal.<br /><br />On April 3, the Supreme Court made it clear to the State Government that it must implement the BMIC Project according to its 2006 judgment without further delay. It told the State Government to complete the survey (in phase C) for issuing a notification for acquiring land for the road. The Cabinet decided to develop 15,000 km of main roads in the State at a cost of Rs. 13,363 crore in the next two years.<br /><br />The State's share is around Rs. 8,000 crore and the remainder will be provided by the Union Government.<br /><br />Mr. Suresh Kumar said that district-to-district, district-to-taluk and taluk-to-taluk roads would be given priority.<br /><br />Of the 15,000 km of roads to be developed, 1,428 km will be tolled. The State will raise Rs. 2,400 crore from private sources, while Karnataka Road Development Corporation Ltd., which will execute the project, will generate Rs. 2,000 crore, Mr. Suresh Kumar said.<br /><br />He said that an empowered committee had been formed under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary to identify the roads to be developed and to monitor the progress on a monthly basis.<br /><br />The Minister said that the Cabinet had given administrative sanction for the development of the 27-km Sandur-Hospet Road at a cost of Rs. 96 crore, and the 46.65-km Kudligi-Sandur-Toranagal Road, both in the Bellary region, at a cost of Rs. 140 crore. Of the 15,000 km of roads to be developed, 1,428 km will be tolled. The State will raise Rs. 2,400 crore from private sources, while Karnataka Road Development Corporation Ltd., which will execute the project, will generate Rs. 2,000 crore, Mr. Suresh Kumar said.&lt;br /&gt;

He said that an empowered committee had been formed under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary to identify the roads to be developed and to monitor the progress on a monthly basis.&lt;br /&gt;

The Minister said that the Cabinet had given administrative sanction for the development of the 27-km Sandur-Hospet Road at a cost of Rs. 96 crore, and the 46.65-km Kudligi-Sandur-Toranagal Road, both in the Bellary region, at a cost of Rs. 140 crore. Following widespread protests and demands by farmers for higher compensation for land acquired for the controversial Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project, the State Cabinet on Thursday decided to increase the compensation paid for 1,916 acres acquired in three villages by the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE), which is executing the expressway project.<br />
<br />
Land in Gonipura and Thippur located near Kengeri in Bangalore South taluk was acquired in 1998 by NICE for Rs. 1.5 lakh an acre, and for Rs. 1 lakh an acre in Shigehalli.<br />
<br />
Addressing presspersons after the Cabinet meeting, Law Minister S. Suresh Kumar said that the Cabinet approved a special rate based on the recommendations of an advisory committee on compensation headed by the Bangalore Urban Deputy Commissioner.<br />
<br />
While farmers in Gonipura and Thippur would now get Rs. 41 lakh an acre, those in Shigehalli would get Rs. 40 lakh an acre.<br />
<br />
NICE would pay the compensation, he said.<br />
<br />
Farmers from whom less than an acre had been acquired by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) would get a 30 x 40 sq ft site in the developed area and those from whom more than an acre had been acquired would get a 40 x 60 sq ft site, the Minister said.<br />
<br />
The Cabinet decision is apparently aimed at silencing the campaign launched by the Janata Dal (Secular) accusing NICE of acquiring land in excess of what had been agreed upon and farmers being given a raw deal.<br />
<br />
On April 3, the Supreme Court made it clear to the State Government that it must implement the BMIC Project according to its 2006 judgment without further delay. It told the State Government to complete the survey (in phase C) for issuing a notification for acquiring land for the road. The Cabinet decided to develop 15,000 km of main roads in the State at a cost of Rs. 13,363 crore in the next two years.<br />
<br />
The State's share is around Rs. 8,000 crore and the remainder will be provided by the Union Government.<br />
<br />
Mr. Suresh Kumar said that district-to-district, district-to-taluk and taluk-to-taluk roads would be given priority.<br />
<br />
Of the 15,000 km of roads to be developed, 1,428 km will be tolled. The State will raise Rs. 2,400 crore from private sources, while Karnataka Road Development Corporation Ltd., which will execute the project, will generate Rs. 2,000 crore, Mr. Suresh Kumar said.<br />
<br />
He said that an empowered committee had been formed under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary to identify the roads to be developed and to monitor the progress on a monthly basis.<br />
<br />
The Minister said that the Cabinet had given administrative sanction for the development of the 27-km Sandur-Hospet Road at a cost of Rs. 96 crore, and the 46.65-km Kudligi-Sandur-Toranagal Road, both in the Bellary region, at a cost of Rs. 140 crore.
