The team visited Kalayansinghpur, the worst-affected block of the district.</font></p><p align="justify"><font >More cases of cholera deaths were also reported from across the district. While the official death toll stood at 40, unofficial sources claimed that the epidemic had already claimed more than 75 lives in Rayagada district alone. The number of affected persons has touched 1,100.</font></p><p align="justify"><font >Besides Rayagada, death cases have also been reported from Nabarangpur, Balangir, Koraput, Nuapada, Bhadrak and Rayagada districts.</font></p><p align="justify"><font >Though health minister Prasanna Acharya had apprised chief minister Naveen Patnaik of the steps being taken to prevent the spread of cholera, the latter was reportedly unhappy about the department&rsquo;s failure to take up a coordinated effort to contain the spread of the disease.</font></p><p align="justify"><font >Earlier, despite the government being warned of the possible outbreak of the disease before the monsoon, no steps were taken to meet the situation. The panchayati raj and rural development departments engaged in a blame gave over the who was responsible for providing safe drinking water to the citizens.
