It cited conversations between Radia and former telecom minister A Raja, Tata Group chief Ratan Tata, various politicians, ministers, bureaucrats and journalists. Others whom the petitioner named included former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee&#039;s foster son-in-law Ranjan Bhattacharya and Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi&#039;s daughter and DMK MP Kanimozhi. The tapes also included conversations relating to court rulings and planting news reports to mould public opinion, it pointed out.&lt;br /&gt;

The government had ordered taping of Radia&#039;s telephonic conversations following a complaint to the finance ministry that she had built up a business empire worth Rs 300 crore within a short span. The complaint also alleged that she was an agent of foreign intelligence agencies and was indulging in anti-national activities. The NGO said making public the entire content of the tapes would &amp;ldquo;reveal the way the Indian government is run by selling national interest for corporate greed and sacrificing long-term public interest for private lucre&amp;rdquo;.&lt;br /&gt;

The NGO opposed Ratan Tata&amp;rsquo;s petition seeking direction of the court to the government to ensure that no further leaks should happen of his private conversations with Radia. A bench comprising Justices GS Singhvi and SS Nijjar on Monday sought a response from the government on why the tapes containing conversations between Radia and various politicians, businessmen and journalists should not be made public. It posted the matter for further hearing on February 2.<br /><br />The bench issued the notice on a plea filed by NGO Centre for Public Interest Litigation, which sought disclosure of the entire 5,800 conversations, saying that the contents of the tapes may reveal corruption in different government departments.<br /><br />It cited conversations between Radia and former telecom minister A Raja, Tata Group chief Ratan Tata, various politicians, ministers, bureaucrats and journalists. Others whom the petitioner named included former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's foster son-in-law Ranjan Bhattacharya and Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi's daughter and DMK MP Kanimozhi. The NGO said making public the entire content of the tapes would &ldquo;reveal the way the Indian government is run by selling national interest for corporate greed and sacrificing long-term public interest for private lucre&rdquo;.<br /><br />The NGO opposed Ratan Tata&rsquo;s petition seeking direction of the court to the government to ensure that no further leaks should happen of his private conversations with Radia.
