Every team of visiting officials, the civic body's officials ensure, is shown around at least one of the subsidized canteens.</p><p align="justify">The visitors, from across the country or even abroad, may have come to study the style of functioning of the city administration but get to see one of the facilities where one can have an idli for 1 and a plate of pongal for 3 at breakfast.</p><p align="justify">On Monday, a 25-member Chandigarh corporation team, led by mayor H C Kalyan and including councillors and civic officials, got to taste the fare at the canteens. &quot;We came here to study the functioning of the corporation but officials told us about Amma canteens and we visited one at the Government General Hospital,&quot; said Kalyan. Asked if he planned to replicate the model in Chandigarh, he said, &quot;It's a good plan and a great initiative by Tamil Nadu chief minister.&quot;</p><p align="justify">A corporation official said the visitors were impressed with quality of food served at affordable prices. &quot;They wanted to know how rice, vegetables and water for the canteens were sourced and also enquired about the workers' working hours and wages.&quot;</p><p align="justify">Chandigarh joint commissioner Rajiv Gupta said they were not aware about the canteens until they arrived here. &quot;Our visit was part of an exchange programme to study various governance models.
