After probing the more than 4000 farmer suicides in the state during the last few years, the two member committee comprising renowned agriculture expert G S Kaushal and retired sugar cane commissioner Dr Sadhuram Sharma, has found that crop failure due to spurious fertilizers, sub-standard seeds and the pressure from loan sharks had also led to farmers taking the extreme step. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
After considering the committee&#039;s recommendations, MPHRC acting chairman justice A K Saxena and member Vijay Shukla have recommended a series of solutions to the state general administration department. The commission has recommended a relief of Rs five lakh to the kin of farmers who killed themselves, and an ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh each to the families of those who attempted suicide. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
It also recommended framing an agriculture-industry policy that could comprehensively address farmers&#039; issues, pointing out that it had come across a number of cases involving situations in which a farmer had no option but to commit suicide. &lt;br /&gt;

Suggesting that the loans given to farmers by unauthorised creditors should be waived off, the commission called for stringent action against unauthorised money lenders. MPHRC has suggested that the state government provide loans at zero per cent interest to poor farmers till it scrapped such loans and introduced a scheme for financing such peasants. &lt;br /&gt;

The commission has also suggested setting up of a farmer&#039;s welfare fund for providing relief to them in the event of extensive damage to crops from natural calamities. Besides, criminal proceedings have been recommended against those selling spurious fertilizers and substandard seeds, asking that such cases be tried in fast track courts. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Similarly, to save farm land from going to industrialists, the commission has recommended a ban on people from outside of the state buying land directly from farmers. If anyone purchases agriculture land and keeps it unused for two years it should be seized, it recommended. Other suggestions include setting up a dedicated television channel to provide farming tips, introduction of farming as a subject in schools, particularly in rural areas, and promotion of PPP in the agriculture sector. &lt;br /&gt;

                <p>-The Times of India</p><p>&nbsp;</p><div align="justify">Rampant corruption in government-run welfare schemes, and not just indebtedness, was one of the major reasons behind farmers in Madhya Pradesh killing themselves, a high-level committee appointed by the state human rights commission has reported. <br /><br />After probing the more than 4000 farmer suicides in the state during the last few years, the two member committee comprising renowned agriculture expert G S Kaushal and retired sugar cane commissioner Dr Sadhuram Sharma, has found that crop failure due to spurious fertilizers, sub-standard seeds and the pressure from loan sharks had also led to farmers taking the extreme step. <br /><br />After considering the committee's recommendations, MPHRC acting chairman justice A K Saxena and member Vijay Shukla have recommended a series of solutions to the state general administration department.                 <p>-The Times of India</p><p>&nbsp;</p><div align="justify">Rampant corruption in government-run welfare schemes, and not just indebtedness, was one of the major reasons behind farmers in Madhya Pradesh killing themselves, a high-level committee appointed by the state human rights commission has reported. <br /><br />After probing the more than 4000 farmer suicides in the state during the last few years, the two member committee comprising renowned agriculture expert G S Kaushal and retired sugar cane commissioner Dr Sadhuram Sharma, has found that crop failure due to spurious fertilizers, sub-standard seeds and the pressure from loan sharks had also led to farmers taking the extreme step. <br /><br />After considering the committee's recommendations, MPHRC acting chairman justice A K Saxena and member Vijay Shukla have recommended a series of solutions to the state general administration department. The commission has recommended a relief of Rs five lakh to the kin of farmers who killed themselves, and an ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh each to the families of those who attempted suicide. <br /><br />It also recommended framing an agriculture-industry policy that could comprehensively address farmers' issues, pointing out that it had come across a number of cases involving situations in which a farmer had no option but to commit suicide. <br /><br />Suggesting that the loans given to farmers by unauthorised creditors should be waived off, the commission called for stringent action against unauthorised money lenders. MPHRC has suggested that the state government provide loans at zero per cent interest to poor farmers till it scrapped such loans and introduced a scheme for financing such peasants. <br /><br />The commission has also suggested setting up of a farmer's welfare fund for providing relief to them in the event of extensive damage to crops from natural calamities. Besides, criminal proceedings have been recommended against those selling spurious fertilizers and substandard seeds, asking that such cases be tried in fast track courts. <br /><br />Similarly, to save farm land from going to industrialists, the commission has recommended a ban on people from outside of the state buying land directly from farmers. Corruption killing MP farmers: State HRC probe report

-The Times of India   Rampant corruption in government-run welfare schemes, and not just indebtedness, was one of the major reasons behind farmers in Madhya Pradesh killing themselves, a high-level committee appointed by the state human rights commission has reported. After probing the more than 4000 farmer suicides in the state during the last few years, the two member committee comprising renowned agriculture expert G S Kaushal and retired sugar cane commissioner Dr Sadhuram Sharma, has found that crop failure due to spurious fertilizers, sub-standard seeds and the pressure from loan sharks had also led to farmers taking the extreme step. After considering the committee's recommendations, MPHRC acting chairman justice A K Saxena and member Vijay Shukla have recommended a series of solutions to the state general administration department. The commission has recommended a relief of Rs five lakh to the kin of farmers who killed themselves, and an ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh each to the families of those who attempted suicide. It also recommended framing an agriculture-industry policy that could comprehensively address farmers' issues, pointing out that it had come across a number of cases involving situations in which a farmer had no option but to commit suicide. Suggesting that the loans given to farmers by unauthorised creditors should be waived off, the commission called for stringent action against unauthorised money lenders. MPHRC has suggested that the state government provide loans at zero per cent interest to poor farmers till it scrapped such loans and introduced a scheme for financing such peasants. The commission has also suggested setting up of a farmer's welfare fund for providing relief to them in the event of extensive damage to crops from natural calamities. Besides, criminal proceedings have been recommended against those selling spurious fertilizers and substandard seeds, asking that such cases be tried in fast track courts. Similarly, to save farm land from going to industrialists, the commission has recommended a ban on people from outside of the state buying land directly from farmers. If anyone purchases agriculture land and keeps it unused for two years it should be seized, it recommended. Other suggestions include setting up a dedicated television channel to provide farming tips, introduction of farming as a subject in schools, particularly in rural areas, and promotion of PPP in the agriculture sector. MPHRC joint director (PR) Rohit Mehta said the commission has directed the government to comply with the recommendations within six months.
