M. Gaffar Khan, a carpenter residing at Porters Line Colony in Guntakal, and his wife Rahima Begum gave birth to a baby girl six days ago at Swapna Nursing Home in Guntakal town. On Sunday morning, both of them allegedly took the baby on to the terrace of the three-storeyed hospital and threw her down to instantaneous death.

The only plausible reason behind the inhuman act seems to be the fact that the child was a girl and succeeded another girl in the family, which wanted only a son to be born. It was reliably learnt that the couple even confessed to their act, although they initially faked innocence.

Around 9 a.m. on Sunday, onlookers raised a hue and cry on seeing the girl in a pool of blood after she apparently fell from a height. The child's parents accused the nurse on duty of killing the child. The nurse and the hospital authorities denied the accusation and the police were called.

A case was registered under Section 302 of the IPC based on the complaint of Gaffar Khan. However, it was learnt that Rahima Begum confessed to the police to have committed the crime along with her husband.The SI of the II Town police station in Guntakal said that they were still investigating the case.
