Decks may be cleared for Navi Mumbai airport by November by Vinay Kumar

Asserting there were “sensitive” environmental issues in the way of the Navi Mumbai airport project, Union Environment and Forests Minister Jairam Ramesh on Tuesday met Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel and the two reached a compromise, signalling that the new international airport may finally clear all hurdles by next month. “We have made good progress on a number of issues. The Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) of the Environment and Forests Ministry will meet on November 9 and 10 and after that clearance will be given to the project. I would say that the satisfaction level is now 70 per cent though 100 per cent may not be possible,” Mr. Ramesh told reporters after the meeting. “It was a very constructive meeting with Mr. Jairam Ramesh and a lot of progress was made. There are various sensitive issues relating to environment involved in the project which are important.
