FSDA&#039;s designated officer Ramnaresh Yadav, who exposed the adulteration, told TOI, &amp;quot;We have started the process of cancelling the licence for Mother Dairy&#039;s Shahpur plant at Bah tehsil for using detergent in milk. Besides, a penalty of Rs 5 lakh will be imposed on the brand&#039;s Gajauraha plant for producing substandard quality of milk. An FIR will be registered against them under section 59 (1) of the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 (selling unsafe food items) with the court of additional chief judicial magistrate.&amp;quot;&lt;br /&gt;

Yadav, along with a team of officials, collected milk samples from two dairies in Bah tehsil of the district in December last year. The samples were then sent to central food laboratory in Kolkata which confirmed the adulteration.&lt;br /&gt;

&amp;quot;These tests assist in detecting contamination of milk through water, urea, detergent, oil, etc. For any such adulteration, the milk is immediately rejected from further action. Besides, a penalty of Rs 5 lakh will be imposed on the brand's Gajauraha plant for producing substandard quality of milk. An FIR will be registered against them under section 59 (1) of the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 (selling unsafe food items) with the court of additional chief judicial magistrate.&quot;<br /><br />Yadav, along with a team of officials, collected milk samples from two dairies in Bah tehsil of the district in December last year. &lt;br /&gt;
FSDA&#039;s designated officer Ramnaresh Yadav, who exposed the adulteration, told TOI, &amp;quot;We have started the process of cancelling the licence for Mother Dairy&#039;s Shahpur plant at Bah tehsil for using detergent in milk. Besides, a penalty of Rs 5 lakh will be imposed on the brand&#039;s Gajauraha plant for producing substandard quality of milk. An FIR will be registered against them under section 59 (1) of the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 (selling unsafe food items) with the court of additional chief judicial magistrate.&amp;quot;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Yadav, along with a team of officials, collected milk samples from two dairies in Bah tehsil of the district in December last year. The samples were then sent to central food laboratory in Kolkata which confirmed the adulteration.&lt;br /&gt;

In a report accessed by TOI, the laboratory said one sample was unsafe since it showed presence of detergent while the other sample was tagged substandard due to presence of extraneous fat (other than that of animal).&lt;br /&gt;

Speaking with TOI, Yadav said, &amp;quot;Last winter, we had sent two samples of Mother Dairy milk to Meerut food laboratory for inspection of quality standards. They found adulteration as the results showed 50% deficiency of SNF (solid not fat) powder in milk, which is the third component in milk after fat and water.&amp;quot;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;quot;Not convinced with the Meerut lab&#039;s findings, Mother Dairy sent the samples to the central food laboratory in Kolkata, where further tests showed that one of the samples had detergent in it. The second sample tested positive for extraneous fat,&amp;quot; he added. The reports from Kolkata lab reached Agra on Monday evening.&lt;br /&gt;

A company official, however, denied that the milk supplied in pouches was substandard. &amp;quot;It is very unfortunate that the samples collected at the village level are being wrongly attributed to Mother Dairy,&amp;quot; Sandeep Ghosh, business head for milk at Mother Dairy Fruit &amp;amp; Vegetable Pvt. Ltd., told reporters.&lt;br /&gt;

&amp;quot;We would like to clarify that at Mother Dairy, milk undergoes four levels of thorough testing at input, processing, dispatches and even at market level. Every tanker of milk reaching our plants passes a series of 23 stringent quality tests to check any deviation from defined parameters.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;quot;These tests assist in detecting contamination of milk through water, urea, detergent, oil, etc. For any such adulteration, the milk is immediately rejected from further action. Only after securing clearance from all quality measures, the milk is then accepted for processing and re-examined after processing,&amp;quot; Ghosh said.&lt;br /&gt;

This is not the first time Mother Dairy has faced trouble in the state. Last week, a sample collected from an outlet in Bareilly city had failed lab tests on several counts. Besides the quantity of fat and natural saturated fat (NSF) being found to be much below the quantity claimed by the company, it was also discovered that the milk was diluted with water. Notice was sent to Mother Dairy seeking a reply within 15 days, failing which a case would be filed in court against the milk manufacturer and distributor. &lt;br /&gt;

&amp;quot;These tests assist in detecting contamination of milk through water, urea, detergent, oil, etc. For any such adulteration, the milk is immediately rejected from further action. FSDA's designated officer Ramnaresh Yadav, who exposed the adulteration, told TOI, "We have started the process of cancelling the licence for Mother Dairy's Shahpur plant at Bah tehsil for using detergent in milk. Besides, a penalty of Rs 5 lakh will be imposed on the brand's Gajauraha plant for producing substandard quality of milk. An FIR will be registered against them under section 59 (1) of the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 (selling unsafe food items) with the court of additional chief judicial magistrate." Yadav, along with a team of officials, collected milk samples from two dairies in Bah tehsil of the district in December last year. The samples were then sent to central food laboratory in Kolkata which confirmed the adulteration. In a report accessed by TOI, the laboratory said one sample was unsafe since it showed presence of detergent while the other sample was tagged substandard due to presence of extraneous fat (other than that of animal). Speaking with TOI, Yadav said, "Last winter, we had sent two samples of Mother Dairy milk to Meerut food laboratory for inspection of quality standards. They found adulteration as the results showed 50% deficiency of SNF (solid not fat) powder in milk, which is the third component in milk after fat and water." "Not convinced with the Meerut lab's findings, Mother Dairy sent the samples to the central food laboratory in Kolkata, where further tests showed that one of the samples had detergent in it. The second sample tested positive for extraneous fat," he added. The reports from Kolkata lab reached Agra on Monday evening. A company official, however, denied that the milk supplied in pouches was substandard. "It is very unfortunate that the samples collected at the village level are being wrongly attributed to Mother Dairy," Sandeep Ghosh, business head for milk at Mother Dairy Fruit & Vegetable Pvt. Ltd., told reporters. "We would like to clarify that at Mother Dairy, milk undergoes four levels of thorough testing at input, processing, dispatches and even at market level. Every tanker of milk reaching our plants passes a series of 23 stringent quality tests to check any deviation from defined parameters. "These tests assist in detecting contamination of milk through water, urea, detergent, oil, etc. For any such adulteration, the milk is immediately rejected from further action. Only after securing clearance from all quality measures, the milk is then accepted for processing and re-examined after processing," Ghosh said. This is not the first time Mother Dairy has faced trouble in the state. Last week, a sample collected from an outlet in Bareilly city had failed lab tests on several counts. Besides the quantity of fat and natural saturated fat (NSF) being found to be much below the quantity claimed by the company, it was also discovered that the milk was diluted with water. Notice was sent to Mother Dairy seeking a reply within 15 days, failing which a case would be filed in court against the milk manufacturer and distributor.
