                <p>-MSN</p><p>&nbsp;</p><div align="justify">A Parliamentary committee has said discrepancies have come to the fore in the working of the Postal Department and the Rural Development ministry in dissemination of wages to workers under the MGNREGA scheme.<br /><br />&quot;The inputs provided by both the departments i.e. Department of Post (DoP) and Department of Rural Development (DRD) indicate contradiction on various aspects particularly on the number of account and amount disbursed through Post,&quot; the report tabled in Parliament said.<br /><br />The report of the Standing Committee on Information Technology headed Rao Inderjit Singh said during 2008-09, the Panel has found a gap of 10 lakh accounts in the number of accounts and Rs 289.94 crore in disbursement of wages.<br /><br />&quot;Huge gaps in the data of the two departments raises a question mark about the system of maintaining as well as monitoring of accounts under MGNREGA, one of the biggest centrally sponsored scheme of the Union government,&quot; the panel said in its report.<br /><br />In 2009-10, the gap in data submitted by both departments widened to 13 lakhs in total Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) worker accounts and over Rs 1,000 crore in wage distribution.<br /></div><div align="justify">&nbsp;</div><div align="justify">During 2010-11 although DRD has furnished the data one month beyond the data furnished by the DoP, such gap is 29 lakh in respect of number of accounts and about Rs 1221 crore in respect of the amount disbursed, it said.<br /></div><div align="justify">&nbsp;</div><div align="justify">&quot;The representative of the DRD during the deliberations agreed that there is discrepancy in the data.                 <p>-MSN</p><p>&nbsp;</p><div align="justify">A Parliamentary committee has said discrepancies have come to the fore in the working of the Postal Department and the Rural Development ministry in dissemination of wages to workers under the MGNREGA scheme.<br /><br />&quot;The inputs provided by both the departments i.e. Department of Post (DoP) and Department of Rural Development (DRD) indicate contradiction on various aspects particularly on the number of account and amount disbursed through Post,&quot; the report tabled in Parliament said.<br /><br />The report of the Standing Committee on Information Technology headed Rao Inderjit Singh said during 2008-09, the Panel has found a gap of 10 lakh accounts in the number of accounts and Rs 289.94 crore in disbursement of wages.<br /><br />&quot;Huge gaps in the data of the two departments raises a question mark about the system of maintaining as well as monitoring of accounts under MGNREGA, one of the biggest centrally sponsored scheme of the Union government,&quot; the panel said in its report.<br /><br />In 2009-10, the gap in data submitted by both departments widened to 13 lakhs in total Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) worker accounts and over Rs 1,000 crore in wage distribution.<br /></div><div align="justify">&nbsp;</div><div align="justify">During 2010-11 although DRD has furnished the data one month beyond the data furnished by the DoP, such gap is 29 lakh in respect of number of accounts and about Rs 1221 crore in respect of the amount disbursed, it said.<br /></div><div align="justify">&nbsp;</div><div align="justify">&quot;The representative of the DRD during the deliberations agreed that there is discrepancy in the data. The report of the Standing Committee on Information Technology headed Rao Inderjit Singh said during 2008-09, the Panel has found a gap of 10 lakh accounts in the number of accounts and Rs 289.94 crore in disbursement of wages. "Huge gaps in the data of the two departments raises a question mark about the system of maintaining as well as monitoring of accounts under MGNREGA, one of the biggest centrally sponsored scheme of the Union government," the panel said in its report. In 2009-10, the gap in data submitted by both departments widened to 13 lakhs in total Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) worker accounts and over Rs 1,000 crore in wage distribution.   During 2010-11 although DRD has furnished the data one month beyond the data furnished by the DoP, such gap is 29 lakh in respect of number of accounts and about Rs 1221 crore in respect of the amount disbursed, it said.   "The representative of the DRD during the deliberations agreed that there is discrepancy in the data. However, the representative of Posts tried to justify the discrepancy by stating that there is a time lag between actual disbursement of wages through post offices and banks and the loading of the figures on the website", it said. The committee said the reason for the gap in data given by DoP for the year 2010-11 can be accepted but the same could not be accepted for 2008-09 and 2009-10.
