Don&rsquo;t know why the home ministry is dismissing these reports,&rdquo; the source said.<br /><br />The family of one of the arrested in Orissa, Aditya Bora, had allegedly said that he was a close acquaintance of KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi, who was a regular visitor to their house. Bora was also a member of Assam Students Youth Organisation, which was under the scanner allegedly being a front of Ulfa and was also believed to be associated with Brihat Nadibandh Pratirudh Mancha, six members of which were arrested in Dhemaji district on January 2, the source said.<br /><br />Before demitting office yesterday, Pillai had said though there were Naxals in Assam, there was no evidence of Akhil&rsquo;s involvement in Naxalite activities. Pillai&rsquo;s statement stands out in contrast to chief minister Tarun Gogoi&rsquo;s statement that one can infer from Akhil&rsquo;s activities that he has Maoist links and today&rsquo;s revelation by government sources that the KMSS has links with Maoist forces.<br /><br />Gogoi had virtually gone to the extent of saying that he is more informed than home minister P. Bora was also a member of Assam Students Youth Organisation, which was under the scanner allegedly being a front of Ulfa and was also believed to be associated with Brihat Nadibandh Pratirudh Mancha, six members of which were arrested in Dhemaji district on January 2, the source said.&lt;br /&gt;

Before demitting office yesterday, Pillai had said though there were Naxals in Assam, there was no evidence of Akhil&amp;rsquo;s involvement in Naxalite activities. Pillai&amp;rsquo;s statement stands out in contrast to chief minister Tarun Gogoi&amp;rsquo;s statement that one can infer from Akhil&amp;rsquo;s activities that he has Maoist links and today&amp;rsquo;s revelation by government sources that the KMSS has links with Maoist forces.&lt;br /&gt;

Gogoi had virtually gone to the extent of saying that he is more informed than home minister P. Chidambaram. &amp;ldquo;By saying KMSS has links with the Maoist, the state government has accused Akhil of having links with Maoists. The developments over Akhil prove that the disconnect is stark. &amp;ldquo;Pillai&amp;rsquo;s comment is nothing short of embarrassing for Dispur,&amp;rdquo; a Congress source said.&lt;br /&gt;

On the other hand, the one-man Surajit Mitra commission probing the anti-eviction rally called on the chief minister this evening. Sources said Mitra, who is supposed to submit his report by July 3, apprised Gogoi about his progress.&lt;br /&gt;

Assam director-general of police Shankar Barua said they were studying the June 22 Dispur violence and necessary action would be taken.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
He said since an inquiry was on, based on the findings follow-up action would be taken. Barua said that emphasis would be given on inducting &amp;ldquo;non-lethal weapons&amp;rdquo; for mob control so as to avoid civilian casualty. The non-lethal weapons are effective to stop crowds and while they may cause injuries they would not be fatal.&lt;br /&gt;

On the expiry of the unilateral ceasefire declared by Ranjan Daimary faction of NDFB on June 30, the DGP said, &amp;ldquo;We are prepared to deal with any eventuality&amp;rdquo;.
