With a spectre of drought looming large over Saurashtra and crops having failed already, Budhel has no choice but to leave.</p><p align="justify">&quot;Survival is becoming tougher as no farmer is lending us money because of delayed monsoon and failed crop. So we have decided to migrate to Kutch, where one of my friend is working as construction labourer,'' Budhel, a native of Gangardi village in Panchmahal, said.</p><p align="justify">In fact, the direct state transport bus connecting Savarkundla and Gangardi is running packed since a week with large number of tribals going back home in search of work.</p><p align="justify">Sources said agriculture in Saurashtra is dependent on tribals, mostly from the eastern belt of Gujarat. They cultivate the farms on contracts as they provide all labour work, while farmers provide seeds, fertilizers and other expenses.</p><p align="justify">However, the crops have failed in most part of the region as rains delayed. &quot;Tribals from Godhra were working in my field since four years. But they left two days ago as there was no work,&quot; a farmer from Abharampara village in Amreli district Kamlesh Patel said.</p><p align="justify">While nearly 12,00 tribals live in Abharampara alone, it is estimated that there are close to 10 lakh tribals in Saurashtra, who have migrated her for farming.</p><p align="justify">&quot;One of tribal, whose son was studying in class II, dropped out from our village primary school as his family has to migrate. They migrate in search of work. With a spectre of drought looming large over Saurashtra and crops having failed already, Budhel has no choice but to leave.

&quot;Survival is becoming tougher as no farmer is lending us money because of delayed monsoon and failed crop. So we have decided to migrate to Kutch, where one of my friend is working as construction labourer,'' Budhel, a native of Gangardi village in Panchmahal, said.

In fact, the direct state transport bus connecting Savarkundla and Gangardi is running packed since a week with large number of tribals going back home in search of work.

Sources said agriculture in Saurashtra is dependent on tribals, mostly from the eastern belt of Gujarat. They cultivate the farms on contracts as they provide all labour work, while farmers provide seeds, fertilizers and other expenses.

However, the crops have failed in most part of the region as rains delayed. &quot;Tribals from Godhra were working in my field since four years. But they left two days ago as there was no work,&quot; a farmer from Abharampara village in Amreli district Kamlesh Patel said.

While nearly 12,00 tribals live in Abharampara alone, it is estimated that there are close to 10 lakh tribals in Saurashtra, who have migrated her for farming.

&quot;One of tribal, whose son was studying in class II, dropped out from our village primary school as his family has to migrate. They migrate in search of work. Their children are the biggest losers due to migration as most of them have to drop out of the schools,'' Patel said.

&quot;The parents have no choice but to take their wards along. Chances are slim that they get enrolled in areas where their parents find new work,&quot; a farmer in Amreli said.
</p>
<p align="justify">
Saurashtra has just received 7.82 per cent rainfall as against its average annual rainfall as on July 9. Last year, the region had received 45 per cent rainfall in the same period.
</p>

The water level in dams is also depleting. As on July 9, there was just 11.19 per cent water available in dams of Saurashtra. The situation is worst in Kutch where only 2.77 per cent water is available in the dams.
