However, efforts are on to mitigate the situation with the government, supported by its MPs, impressing upon the Center to do the needful immediately.</font></p><p align="justify"><font >Lok Sabha MP Takam Sanjoy, who called on the Union Minister for Food and Public Distribution Sharad Pawar today at New Delhi along with MLAs Nido Pavitra and Gadam Ete and NCP state unit president Ngurang Pinch, informed that Pawar has taken to the issue seriously. According to a letter addressed to the Chief Minister from Sanjoy, Pawar has convened a high level meeting with all concerned on Monday.</font></p><p align="justify"><font >With the state Cabinet meeting also slated for Monday, Sanjoy appealed the Chief Minister to exempt Food and Civil Supplies Minister Tanga Byaling and Parliamentary Secretary Lokam Tassar from the cabinet meeting to allow them to attend the all-important meet with the Union Minister.</font></p><p align="justify"><font >Meanwhile, Sanjoy, seconded by Pinch, informed Pawar that FCI depots of the state are not maintaining adequate stock of essential commodities and blamed it on internal bickerings amongst FCI officials at Itanagar and Guwahati. He appealed the Union Minister to immediately bifurcate the Itanagar FCI office from the Guwahati office and release all pending HTS bills. He also appealed consideration of Rs 2.25 per quintal per km for vehicular transportation and Rs 125 per quintal per km for head-load carriage of PDS.</font></p><p align="justify"><font >On the other hand, talking to media persons here this evening, Food &amp; Civil Supply Minister Tanga Byaling rued that due to non clearance of HTS bills since 2003 by the FCI has adversely affected the Public Distribution Sytem in the state. He further lamented that the central government has been curtailing regular rice supply to 4475 metric tonnes from 6700 metric tonnes.</font></p><p align="justify"><font >Revealing that PDS contractors have threatened to discontinue carrying PDS items unless they are paid their dues, Byaling regretted that despite writing to the Center several times this demand of the contractors is yet to be heeded. He informed that he had also written many times to the FCI for providing buffer stocks for five- six months, which are also awaiting response. Sensing a severe food crisis, especially in the remote areas of the state, Byaling blamed FCI of failing to bear its responsibilities. Byaling, meanwhile, confirmed that he would leave for New Delhi tomorrow to attend the meeting called by Pawar on Monday.</font></p>               </font>
