In the RTI, embezzlement of pension funds for the aged persons and widows had come to light. It had been alleged by the complainant that family of Jagdish Kumar did not support the sarpanch during elections hence he stopped their pension.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">On February 9 last year, the ex-sarpanch and his driver Satbir went to whistleblower Jagdish Kumar's house in an Innova car and tried to crush Jagdish to death. When they were trying to escape, Jagdish's daughter-in-law Sonu Rani made an abortive attempt to stop them and was run over by the car.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">Sonu, in her mid 20s, died on the way to hospital.                 <div style="text-align: justify"><em>FATEHABAD: </em>An additional district and sessions court on Monday handed down life imprisonment to a former sarpanch of Chandrawal village, who allegedly mowed down daughter-in-law of a whistleblower RTI activist.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">Announcing the life sentence, additional district and sessions judge (ADJ) L N Jindal also slapped a fine of Rs 6,000 each on former sarpanch Dharambir Malik and driver Satbir Singh.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">Two whistleblowers Jagdish Kumar and Phool Singh of Chandrawal had sought information through the Right to Information Act (RTI) against Malik. In the RTI, embezzlement of pension funds for the aged persons and widows had come to light. It had been alleged by the complainant that family of Jagdish Kumar did not support the sarpanch during elections hence he stopped their pension.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">On February 9 last year, the ex-sarpanch and his driver Satbir went to whistleblower Jagdish Kumar's house in an Innova car and tried to crush Jagdish to death. When they were trying to escape, Jagdish's daughter-in-law Sonu Rani made an abortive attempt to stop them and was run over by the car.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">Sonu, in her mid 20s, died on the way to hospital. Acting on the statement given by Jagdish, who too suffered injuries, the police had started investigation after registering a case against Malik and Satbir.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">Nearly a month after the incident, Malik and Satbir were arrested. Later, they have been found guilty by the court.</div>               </font>
