Farmers adopting light trap tech to prevent pest attack

-The Pioneer

Raipur: A large number of farmers in Chhattisgarh have started adopting the light trap technique for prevention of pest attack on crops.

The light trap consists of 100-200 Watt bulb that attracts the pests. The crop damaging pests come near the bulb and fall in the box kept below, and get collected into the bag or container attached to the box. Light Trap works on power supply. Nowadays Solar light traps are also available, officials informed.

Agricultural scientists have advised all the farmers to use this technique to save their crops from harmful pests. They have also suggested the farmers to keep a check on crops during cloudy and humid weather. The scientists have warned that during the monsoon season, crops are more prone to pest attack. This pest attack can be prevented at the initial stage and crop damage can be minimised.

The scientists informed that the light trap technique is largely beneficial in controlling pest attack at its initial stage itself.

Agriculture Department officials stated that in case the crops are attacked by pests, then the light trap technique should be used from 7 pm to 9 pm. Officials informed that deputy directors of Agriculture Department in district headquarters distribute light traps to farmers. State Government also provides subsidy for this equipment.
