When asked why such action was taken when farmers had documents, he said, &quot;We are working on the orders of National Green Tribunal (NGT)&quot;.

BHOPAL: Farmers opposed drive against sewage farming undertaken by district administration near Shahpura here on Sunday. They pleaded that their vegetables had been checked by the health department and were found suitable for human consumption.
Around 50 families own 100 acres of land in the area. About 10-12 acres of vegetables were destroyed by a team of administration.
The farmers also told the administration team that they were not using any untreated sewage water but water from tube wells was used for irrigation. Farmers said, they wanted to show supporting documents, but administration was not ready to see them.
SDM TT Nagar Manoj Sariam, who at the helm of the drive told TOI, "The farmers also told us that they had documents from a lab giving them a clean chit. However, they were unable to produce them. We have called them with supporting documents on Monday. If found correct, we would forward them to higher authorities".
When asked why such action was taken when farmers had documents, he said, "We are working on the orders of National Green Tribunal (NGT)".
Because of the drive, vegetables worth around Rs 10,000 were destroyed. Next hearing on the issue will take place at NGT on February 20.
