GREATER NOIDA: The farmer community of Greater Noida welcomed Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's relief announcements in terms of debt waivers and buy back proposals of stacked up wheat produce.

The twin announcements have given hope to the community which has been suffering under financial distress over last three years because of cash crunch and inclement crop damage. Adityanath's announcement of wheat purchase made yesterday at Gorakhpur came in quick succession after his announcement of making the farmers of Uttar Pradesh debt-free. Both waivers are being seen in a positive light by the farming community which was badly hit by the union government's demonetization drive in November which crippled crop sales.

"We welcome the goodwill being extended by the Chief Minister towards the farmer community. The farmers have had long-standing demands and were battling under the weight of debts and crop loss due to weather condition. We hope the twin effect of the purchase of stacked up wheat and the release of debts will give us a big liquidity push," Dushyant Nagar, convenor, Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, said.

The farm-load waiver announced by the CM for the state of Up is expected to hit the state exchequer by Rs 27, 419.70, as per State Bank of India estimates.

"Most farmers have not been able to sell the winter crop, so there's a heap of unsold wheat lying. Also, we now have other cash crops like mustard, gram and pulses ready for the market. We hope a proper supply chain is created in the state so that the farmers can continue to produce and sale," Nagar added.

Uttar Pradesh farmers have been one of the worst-hit states in India because of inclement weather conditions during 2014 and 2015 and 2016.
