Flood situation grim in Assam, improves in Jammu & Kashmir

Flood situation continues to be grim in Assam, Centre assures all possible help;  In Jammu & Kashmir, flood situation improves leading to resumption of  Amarnath Yatra.

The flood situation in Assam continued to remain grim.  Over 63,000 people are still affected by the floods across five districts, with the MeT department forecasting more rainfall in the state in the coming days.

The death toll stood at 32 with no casualty being reported on Sunday.

Union Home Minister on Sunday spoke to Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal over telephone and took stock of the prevailing flood situation in the state.

He assured all possible support to Assam and other North Eastern parts of the country for overcoming the flood situation.

Weather conditions have improved in Jammu & Kashmir. The water level in River Jhelum has receded well below danger mark in south Kashmir though the river is still flowing above half a feet above danger mark in Srinagar.

Governor N N Vohra in a divisional level meeting reviewed flood preparedness of all the wings of Divisional Administration to meet any eventuality at State Flood Control Room in Srinagar.
