The report said India would displace China to become the world''s most populous nation by 2030. </font></p><p align="justify"><font >Between 2005 and 2030, the country''s population would increase by 31 per cent, while China''s will be much lower at over 5 per cent. To meet the growing demand, the country will have to increase food production by 70 per cent, which would be three times more than China''s requirement at 21 per cent rise. </font></p><p align="justify"><font >Although, India has 11 per cent more arable land compared to China, there is a big gap in the amount of food production between the two countries. The report said, by 2030 India and China would be much more prosperous than it is today and the two countries per capita food consumption will also increase proportionately. </font></p><p align="justify"><font >Based on current trends in per capita GDP and food intake, it is expected that Indias per capita food intake will increase from below 2,400 kilo calorie per day in 2005 to 2,900 kcal per day in 2030, thus registering a growth of over 23 per cent.
