Chandrababu Naidu had been formed to raise the farmers' issues in the Parliament during the session.<br /><br /><em>5 lakh suicides<br /></em><br />Mr. Atul Kumar Anjan said here on Wednesday that the country had witnessed over five lakh suicides by farmers in the past 15 years as they were compelled to take to the extreme step as the Centre and State governments turned indifferent to their demand for remunerative prices to their agriculture produce.<br /><br /><em>70 per cent rise<br /></em><br />&ldquo;The costs of agriculture have gone up by 70 per cent between 2009 and 2011. The agenda finalised at the meeting should form part of the discussions of the National Development Council so that the Centre and States could finalise action plan for alleviating the problems of the agriculturists who were facing a grave situation.&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;em&gt;70 per cent rise&lt;br /&gt;

$disp = '<p align="justify">-The Hindu</p><p align="justify"><br /><em>Kisan Sabha wants Prime Minister to meet agriculturists<br /></em><br />The All India Kisan Sabha has demanded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh convene a meeting of farmers' organisations, farm scientists and economists to evolve measures to accord top priority to agriculture sector in the XII Five Year Plan.<br /><br />The agenda finalised at the meeting should form part of the discussions of the National Development Council so that the Centre and States could finalise action plan for alleviating the problems of the agriculturists who were facing a grave situation.<br /><br />Kisan Sabha general secretary Atul Kumar Anjan lamented that the crop holiday observed by farmers in Andhra Pradesh was likely to be emulated by farmers in other States for want of remunerative prices.<br /><br /><em>Demonstration<br /></em><br />The Kisan Sabha planned a massive demonstration of farmers in the national capital during the budget session.<br /><br />And a coordination committee with Telugu Desam (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu had been formed to raise the farmers' issues in the Parliament during the session.<br /><br /><em>5 lakh suicides<br /></em><br />Mr. Atul Kumar Anjan said here on Wednesday that the country had witnessed over five lakh suicides by farmers in the past 15 years as they were compelled to take to the extreme step as the Centre and State governments turned indifferent to their demand for remunerative prices to their agriculture produce.<br /><br /><em>70 per cent rise<br /></em><br />&ldquo;The costs of agriculture have gone up by 70 per cent between 2009 and 2011. However, the government remains insensitive to the gravity of the situation.&rdquo;<br /><br /><em>&ldquo;Faulty policies&rdquo;<br /></em><br />While the European Union was continuing high subsidies to ensure that their farmers stayed in field, the situation was quite opposite here as farmers' were being uprooted from fields because of the &ldquo;faulty policies&rdquo; of the Centre, the general secretary said.<br /><br /><em>&lsquo;Agenda of the meeting will help in finalising action plan for alleviating their problems'<br /><br />Crop holiday observed by AP farmers likely to be emulated in other States, says general secretary<br />&nbsp;</em></p>'
