                <div align="justify">-The Economic Times</div><p align="justify"><br />Most state governments have sought a relook at UPA's Land Acquisition Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, pushing the Centre into convening an all-party meet, probably as early as the next fortnight.</p><p align="justify">A consensus at the meeting of all parties heading state governments will let the Centre amend the law in the current monsoon session itself.</p><p align="justify">This revision of the land law is imperative for the Centre to execute major infrastructure projects through the public-private partnership route as envisaged in Arun Jaitley's budget.</p><p align="justify">Land acquisition has come up as the single biggest hurdle for most of the new mega industrial projects.</p><p align="justify">The Samajwadi Party government of Uttar Pradesh, AIADMK's in Tamil Nadu, Trinamool Congress' in West Bengal and BJD's in Odisha, accounting for most of the non-BJP, non-Congress state governments and a chunk of votes in the Rajya Sabha where BJP is in a minority, are keen on getting the Act amended for various reasons.</p><p align="justify">Many states want complete autonomy on issues of land acquisition, keeping the Centre at arm's length.</p><p align="justify">For instance, West Bengal has categorically sought to have its own land acquisition policy. Tamil Nadu wants the &quot;power to define public purpose&quot; and feels the present act is an &quot;infringement upon the state's autonomy.&quot; UP too has sought similar powers for the state government.
