&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;quot;We want to bring the bill within this part of the session,&#039;&#039; parliamentary affairs minister Pawan Kumar Bansal told the Rajya Sabha in response to a notice moved by Leader of the Opposition Arun Jaitley. The latter had sought suspension of question hour on Wednesday to seek a discussion on the immediate resumption of debate on the anti-graft bill.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The government, in an effort to hammer out a consensus on the amendments moved on the bill by the Opposition and a section of its allies, is likely to convene another all-party meeting soon. One of the option being considered is that the Centre itself moves an amendment keeping Lokayuktas out of the legislation&#039;s ambit. &amp;quot;That would take care of the concern aired by the Trinamool and many Opposition parties,&#039;&#039; said a Union minister.&lt;br /&gt;

Jaitley&#039;s stand was supported not just by the entire Opposition, but also the Trinamool Congress, which is an ally of Congress, and BSP, which extends outside support to the Manmohan Singh government. Sensing the mood of the House, the parliamentary affairs minister had no option but to assure members that the discussion on the bill be taken up during the first-half of the budget session itself. His statement marked a shift in the government&#039;s stand on the subject as the minister had, while addressing the session- eve press conference, said it would be difficult to take up the bill in the first part due to financial business.&lt;br /&gt;

Bansal said the government had studied the 187 amendments moved on the bill by the Opposition and a section of its own allies after the House was adjourned sine die on December 29. His statement marked a shift in the government's stand on the subject as the minister had, while addressing the session- eve press conference, said it would be difficult to take up the bill in the first part due to financial business.<br />

Bansal said the government had studied the 187 amendments moved on the bill by the Opposition and a section of its own allies after the House was adjourned sine die on December 29. The Lokpal and the Lokayukta bills, he added, had been kept on top of the list of business to be conducted during the budget session of Parliament. &quot;But our priority will be to first ensure the passage of the motion of thanks on the presidential address, the general budget and the rail budget. We could then take up the anti-graft bill,'' the parliamentary affairs minister said.<br />

Listing the priority for the government for first part of the budget session which ends March 30, he said the Motion of Thanks to the President's address will be taken up first, followed by passing of general and rail budgets and Lokpal bill will be taken up thereafter.<br />
