Of this, the authorities have managed to recover Rs 35.59 lakh so far. Charge memos were served on three MPDOs working at Prathipadu and Sankhava-ram. Police cases were booked on two MPDOs from Prathipadu for their involvement in misappropriation of funds.<br /></font></p><p align="justify"><font >An additional project officer from Peddapuram was dismissed from service while two APOs from Prat-hipadu and Y. Police cases were booked on two MPDOs from Prathipadu for their involvement in misappropriation of funds.<br /></font></p><p align="justify"><font >An additional project officer from Peddapuram was dismissed from service while two APOs from Prat-hipadu and Y. Graft affects NREGS implementation in EG

The implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) is plagu-ed by a series of lapses including financial misappropriation worth several crores of rupees and graft leading to booking of cases against officials including mandal parishad development officers and suspension of several technical and field staff in Godavari districts. In East Godavari, a whopping amount of Rs 4.06 crores were found misappropriated during social audit being held at the village level. Of this, the authorities have managed to recover Rs 35.59 lakh so far. Charge memos were served on three MPDOs working at Prathipadu and Sankhava-ram. Police cases were booked on two MPDOs from Prathipadu for their involvement in misappropriation of funds. An additional project officer from Peddapuram was dismissed from service while two APOs from Prat-hipadu and Y. Ramavaram were placed under suspension. A police case was bo-oked against an APO from Prathipadu. Six technical assistants were suspended, four dismissed and police cases booked against three at Prathipadu. The services of 60 field assistants were terminated as also the services of 380 maids working at the field level. In West Godavari, the authorities found misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs 80.16 lakh; so far, Rs 19.09 lakh was recovered. Two additional project officers from Pedavegi and Lingapalem and four technical assistants from Narasapuram, Pedavegi and Tanuku were placed under suspension. The authorities are yet to recover nearly Rs 10.36 lakh from Pedavegi mandal, Rs 11.44 lakh from Jeelugumilli mandal and Rs 8.82 lakh from Chinthalapudi mandal in the district. Villagers allege several lapses including allocation of work, maintenance of muster rolls, measurement of quantum of work executed and wages paid.
