However, director general of social justice and empowerment informed the auditors that efforts were being made to recover the amount.</p><p align="justify">The CAG report revealed that old age allowance was paid to 281 persons in Pinjore (Panchkula), who were already receiving pension benefits under other schemes after retiring from government service or autonomous bodies. A sum of over Rs 70 lakh was paid to these ineligible persons, but according to CAG report, action to recover this amount was not initiated till December 2012.</p><p align="justify">Besides, about 128 beneficiaries of Ambala, Gurgaon, Hisar and Mahendragarh, whose spouses had retired from government bodies, were paid allowance amounting to around Rs 30 lakh illegally, the report added.</p>               </font>

Haryana paid old-age pension to 12,000 ineligible people: CAG -Sukhbir Siwach

-The Times of India CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government has been providing old age pension to 12,000 people, who were below the age of 60 and not eligible for the same, a report released by the comptroller and auditor general (CAG) recently revealed. The beneficiaries received old age pension of Rs 500 between 2011 and December, 2012, when the state government came to know of the scam. The state government grants "old age allowance" ranging between Rs 500 and Rs 700 to provide social security to persons above 60 years. The CAG report revealed that beneficiaries under the scheme were not identified in accordance with the procedure prescribed and pension was granted to ineligible persons - those who were not residents of the state or who have not completed 60 years of age. Following a large number of complaints regarding withdrawal of allowances by ineligible people, re-verification of beneficiaries was conducted last year. "This indicated that identification of beneficiaries at the time of initial survey was not done properly under the scheme," the CAG report mentioned. Though payment of allowance to ineligible beneficiaries was stopped, CAG auditors found that no action was taken to recover the allowance. When pointed out by the auditors, officials recovered just Rs 39,000, out of the over Rs 25 lakh in Ambala district. However, director general of social justice and empowerment informed the auditors that efforts were being made to recover the amount. The CAG report revealed that old age allowance was paid to 281 persons in Pinjore (Panchkula), who were already receiving pension benefits under other schemes after retiring from government service or autonomous bodies. A sum of over Rs 70 lakh was paid to these ineligible persons, but according to CAG report, action to recover this amount was not initiated till December 2012. Besides, about 128 beneficiaries of Ambala, Gurgaon, Hisar and Mahendragarh, whose spouses had retired from government bodies, were paid allowance amounting to around Rs 30 lakh illegally, the report added.
