This is more startling in a year when girls from the state shone in diverse fields-- bagging medals in Commonwealth and Asian games in wrestling, kabaddi, boxing and athletics and being selected in the civil services. &lt;br /&gt;

In Kurukshetra district, girls topped in areas where a sex ratio of 765:1000 has been reported -- down by 45 points. The districts where the ratio has slipped alarmingly are Ambala (798:1000), Bhiwani (835:1000) and Rohtak (804:1000). &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The consistent drop in Rohtak district is even more shocking, plummeting from 871 in 2007 to 853 (2008), 822 (2009) and 804 (2010). &lt;br /&gt;

The data for this district shows that around 50 villages have below 700 girls per 1000 boys. The situation is much worse in Dobh, Baini Mato, Garhi Sampla, Azadgarh Dhani and Bohar-2 villages, where there are below 300 girls per 1000 boys. Other districts with dismal showing are Karnal, Kaithal, Sirsa, Jhajjar, Hisar, Jind, Palwal, Sonipat, Narnaul, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Rewari and Fatehabad. &lt;br /&gt;

Haryana health minister Rao Narender Singh said the government needs to be more serious about this problem. &amp;quot;A meeting of civil surgeons of all districts has been called at Chandigarh to discuss the deteriorating gender ratio. I am going to issue strict instructions to health officials to arrest this negative trend through stricter implementation of the PNDT Act and monitoring of ultrasound centres. The health department figures for last year show a negative trend in 17 districts in the 0-6 age group. <br /><br />The disclosure has forced the government to do a rethink on policies being framed to arrest the slide. <br /><br />According to figures available till 2010-end, the already disproportionate sex ratio has further declined to 834 girls for 1000 boys from 854:1000 at the start of 2010 -- with 17 districts, including Haryana chief minister`s home district of Rohtak registering a negative trend. <br /><br />This is more startling in a year when girls from the state shone in diverse fields-- bagging medals in Commonwealth and Asian games in wrestling, kabaddi, boxing and athletics and being selected in the civil services. <br /><br />In Kurukshetra district, girls topped in areas where a sex ratio of 765:1000 has been reported -- down by 45 points. The districts where the ratio has slipped alarmingly are Ambala (798:1000), Bhiwani (835:1000) and Rohtak (804:1000). <br /><br />The consistent drop in Rohtak district is even more shocking, plummeting from 871 in 2007 to 853 (2008), 822 (2009) and 804 (2010). <br /><br />The data for this district shows that around 50 villages have below 700 girls per 1000 boys. The situation is much worse in Dobh, Baini Mato, Garhi Sampla, Azadgarh Dhani and Bohar-2 villages, where there are below 300 girls per 1000 boys. Other districts with dismal showing are Karnal, Kaithal, Sirsa, Jhajjar, Hisar, Jind, Palwal, Sonipat, Narnaul, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Rewari and Fatehabad. <br /><br />Haryana health minister Rao Narender Singh said the government needs to be more serious about this problem. &quot;A meeting of civil surgeons of all districts has been called at Chandigarh to discuss the deteriorating gender ratio. I am going to issue strict instructions to health officials to arrest this negative trend through stricter implementation of the PNDT Act and monitoring of ultrasound centres. The health department figures for last year show a negative trend in 17 districts in the 0-6 age group. The disclosure has forced the government to do a rethink on policies being framed to arrest the slide. According to figures available till 2010-end, the already disproportionate sex ratio has further declined to 834 girls for 1000 boys from 854:1000 at the start of 2010 -- with 17 districts, including Haryana chief minister`s home district of Rohtak registering a negative trend. This is more startling in a year when girls from the state shone in diverse fields-- bagging medals in Commonwealth and Asian games in wrestling, kabaddi, boxing and athletics and being selected in the civil services. In Kurukshetra district, girls topped in areas where a sex ratio of 765:1000 has been reported -- down by 45 points. The districts where the ratio has slipped alarmingly are Ambala (798:1000), Bhiwani (835:1000) and Rohtak (804:1000). The consistent drop in Rohtak district is even more shocking, plummeting from 871 in 2007 to 853 (2008), 822 (2009) and 804 (2010). The data for this district shows that around 50 villages have below 700 girls per 1000 boys. The situation is much worse in Dobh, Baini Mato, Garhi Sampla, Azadgarh Dhani and Bohar-2 villages, where there are below 300 girls per 1000 boys. Other districts with dismal showing are Karnal, Kaithal, Sirsa, Jhajjar, Hisar, Jind, Palwal, Sonipat, Narnaul, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Rewari and Fatehabad. Haryana health minister Rao Narender Singh said the government needs to be more serious about this problem. "A meeting of civil surgeons of all districts has been called at Chandigarh to discuss the deteriorating gender ratio. I am going to issue strict instructions to health officials to arrest this negative trend through stricter implementation of the PNDT Act and monitoring of ultrasound centres. We are roping in panchayats in the anti-femicide drive to counter the problem at a social level," said the health minister, adding that more incentives for the girl child are likely to be introduced.
