Google India, in its report, said it has removed certain webpages from the Internet.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">The court, under Senior Civil Judge Praveen Kumar, had on December 24 last year issued summons to 22 social networking websites asking them to remove &ldquo;anti-religious&rdquo; or &ldquo;anti-social&rdquo; content in the form of photographs, videos or text which might hurt religious sentiments. The court was acting on a private complaint filed by Mufti Aijaz Arshad Qazmi.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">&ldquo;The complaint contains certain allegations with respect to content allegedly available on website www.facebook.com. Have pulled some pages, Google tells court by Jayant Sriram

Of the 22 companies summoned by a Delhi civil court over objectionable content on their websites, only Google India submitted today that it had removed certain contentious pages. Facebook, Yahoo! India and Microsoft said there was no cause for action against them. In its affidavit, Facebook told the court that it does not control or operate the servers that host the website at www.facebook.com, which are located in the US. Google India, in its report, said it has removed certain webpages from the Internet. The court, under Senior Civil Judge Praveen Kumar, had on December 24 last year issued summons to 22 social networking websites asking them to remove “anti-religious” or “anti-social” content in the form of photographs, videos or text which might hurt religious sentiments. The court was acting on a private complaint filed by Mufti Aijaz Arshad Qazmi. “The complaint contains certain allegations with respect to content allegedly available on website www.facebook.com. Defendant No.1 (Facebook India) does not control or operate ther servers that host the website available at facebook.com, which are located in the United States,” Facebook India said in a report filed before the court today. Yahoo!, on the other hand, said it had sought a response from the plaintiff as no objectionable material on the CD supplied by him was hosted on its website. However, as it received no reply, the company contended that it was not required to comply with the court’s December 24 order. The company also said it had mistakenly been bunched with “other prominent social networking websites on the patently mistaken assumption that it was a social networking website”. Microsoft India Pvt Ltd also sought rejection of the complaint against it, saying there is “not even a whisper of allegation against it”. The court directed all 22 sites to file written statements within 15 days on the petition filed by Qazmi and posted the matter for further arguments on March 1. Earlier, many of the companies summoned by the court today claimed that they had not received copies of the documents submitted by the petitioners, or had received their copies late. The judge asked the petitioners’ counsel Santosh Pandey to supply copies of all the documents; however, he also pulled up several companies, including Google, for not filing a proper reply, despite having adequate time to prepare. “Why are you (Google) not coming properly with your reply? After all this hullabaloo that has been created in the last few months you should have been prepared,” the court said.
