The 8am to 8pm rationing started on January 1 and was to continue till January 15. Sundays are exempt.<br />

Examining several petitions against the scheme, a bench of Chief Justice G. Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath observed that unless the state could prove that the pollution gains were significant, citizens should not be inconvenienced further.<br />
<br />
&ldquo;You have to think about it&hellip;. There is no sufficient public transport. Is it really necessary to have it for 15 days?&rdquo; the court wondered.<br />
<br />
&ldquo;Aren&rsquo;t these six days enough for you?&hellip; you must have collected data related to pollution level, we think it&rsquo;s sufficient for you. You will have to think about inconvenience caused to public at large. There is a practical difficulty.&rdquo;<br />
Delhi&rsquo;s senior standing counsel Rahul Mehra told the court exemptions had been given to women and two-wheeler users to decrease inconvenience and that the government was working in the interest of the people.<br />

&ldquo;We have to take into consideration the future of the next generation. Entire world is considering climate change. We also have to move a step. Even Chief Justice of India and the judges of this court are supporting the scheme.&rdquo;<br />
Delhi transport minister Gopal Rai said in central Delhi, particulate matter (PM) 2.5 had been reduced to a third of what it used to be.<br />

&ldquo;There is no big change in PM 10, which will be reduced when we deploy vacuum road cleaners in April. Except the outer areas of Delhi, PM 2.5 has been reduced by a third in other areas,&rdquo; he said.<br />
<br />
Mobile dust samplers of the Delhi Pollution Control Committee have surveyed 17 locations in Delhi. The average level of PM 2.5 is 353 micrograms per cubic metre, which is 130 micrograms less than last year, the Delhi government said in a statement.<br />
<br />
&ldquo;We shall submit our achievements made, despite the prevailing weather conditions, to the court on Friday.&rdquo;
