Changes to four of those books have been recommended in the panel&rsquo;s report, accessed by The Indian Express.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">As reported by this newspaper, the committee last week recommended that 21 cartoon be deleted and 22 other cartoon captions/notes be modified or replaced. It has also made over 30 suggestions for modifications to be made in the texts next year.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">Among its recommendations for a comprehensive review of NCERT textbooks, one is that the word &ldquo;Dalit&rdquo; should be replaced with &ldquo;SC&rdquo;, and &ldquo;apartheid&rdquo; with &ldquo;untouchability&rdquo; or &ldquo;caste discrimination&rdquo;. It has also said more space must be given to Ambedkar&rsquo;s role and thoughts.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">On the Class XII book Politics in India Since Independence, the committee recommends that the &ldquo;too many&rdquo; cartoons on Indira Gandhi should be reviewed, and questions whether the generously used Amul advertisements are &ldquo;really pedagogic material&rdquo;. It recommends that Class XII&rsquo;s Contemporary World Politics should be revised every five years to factor in new developments. It has also suggested a rearrangement of the order of precedence of political leaders in a chapter in a Class IX book.
