&amp;ldquo;The cost and quantity of water dispensed will be visible on an LED display verifiable by the customer. The selection of the franchisee/agent for installation of machines will be done by two-packet tender system (technical and financial) so as to ensure that branded and reputed companies are engaged for this job,&amp;rdquo; a statement from the Railways said.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Mr. Monocha also said the water supplied would be as per the WHO standards ad the IRCTC has said the amount of water which goes waste due to the &amp;ldquo;reverse osmosis&amp;rdquo; process should not be more than 40 per cent.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;em&gt;Recycle of waste water&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/em&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
The waste water would be recycled for use in toilets in stations, he added.&lt;br /&gt;

The vendors would pay a lease rental fee which would be shared by IRCTC and Indian Railways, while the cost of input water and electricity will be borne by the vendor setting up the unit.&lt;br /&gt;

In future, we would be looking at having one vending machine per three coaches as most trains stop at some stations for only 3-4 minutes and passengers find it difficult to buy water in such short time. Passengers can buy water through cash, coins and smart cards,&rdquo; said A.K. Monocha, chairman and managing director, IRCTC.<br /><br />He said the tender would open by July 16 and the installation of water vending machines would start by September.<br /><br />Firms like Ion Exchange, Eureka Forbes and Kent Ro have expressed interest in the project. &ldquo;To ensure better supply of vending machines, we have allowed their franchisee holders or authorised agents to participate in the tender process,&rdquo; Mr. Monocha said.<br /><br /><em>Comprehensive policy<br /></em><br />The Railway Ministry has issued a comprehensive policy for installation of water-vending machines at railway stations.<br /><br />&ldquo;The cost and quantity of water dispensed will be visible on an LED display verifiable by the customer. The selection of the franchisee/agent for installation of machines will be done by two-packet tender system (technical and financial) so as to ensure that branded and reputed companies are engaged for this job,&rdquo; a statement from the Railways said.<br /><br />Mr. Monocha also said the water supplied would be as per the WHO standards ad the IRCTC has said the amount of water which goes waste due to the &ldquo;reverse osmosis&rdquo; process should not be more than 40 per cent.<br /><br /><em>Recycle of waste water<br /></em><br />The waste water would be recycled for use in toilets in stations, he added.<br /><br />The vendors would pay a lease rental fee which would be shared by IRCTC and Indian Railways, while the cost of input water and electricity will be borne by the vendor setting up the unit.<br /><br />&ldquo;The initial plan is to have two vending machines per platform. In future, we would be looking at having one vending machine per three coaches as most trains stop at some stations for only 3-4 minutes and passengers find it difficult to buy water in such short time.
