Secretary Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission Srikumar Banerjee and Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) Chairman S.S. Bajaj briefed Dr. Singh about the technical review of the nuclear installations in the country, including, most importantly the safety aspect.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
However, Mr. Menon, who was interacting with journalists at the Indian Women&#039;s Press Corps here, added a cautionary note, stressing that it was an &amp;ldquo;evolving situation&amp;rdquo; and that the Indian scientists, who were asked what lessons could be learned from the Japanese experience, had said that they would continue closely studying the situation in Japan through a detailed review of the safety factors and come back with more &amp;ldquo;conclusive answers&amp;rdquo; later.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
They were hoping to learn from it to further strengthen India&#039;s nuclear safety measures, Mr. Menon said.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Dr. Singh&#039;s meeting with the scientists comes two days after he announced in Parliament that he had ordered an immediate technical review of all safety systems of the country&#039;s nuclear plants by the DAE and its agencies, including the Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL), &amp;ldquo;particularly with a view to ensuring that they would be able to withstand the impact of large natural disasters such as tsunamis and earthquakes.&amp;rdquo;&lt;br /&gt;

Meanwhile, in the context of fresh fears about the proposed nuclear plant in Maharashtra&#039;s Jaitapur, Minister of State for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh said: &amp;ldquo;The NPCIL is relooking at its safety systems, relooking at the design. Bajaj briefed Dr. Singh about the technical review of the nuclear installations in the country, including, most importantly the safety aspect.<br /><br />However, Mr. Menon, who was interacting with journalists at the Indian Women's Press Corps here, added a cautionary note, stressing that it was an &ldquo;evolving situation&rdquo; and that the Indian scientists, who were asked what lessons could be learned from the Japanese experience, had said that they would continue closely studying the situation in Japan through a detailed review of the safety factors and come back with more &ldquo;conclusive answers&rdquo; later.<br /><br />They were hoping to learn from it to further strengthen India's nuclear safety measures, Mr. Menon said.<br /><br />Dr. Singh's meeting with the scientists comes two days after he announced in Parliament that he had ordered an immediate technical review of all safety systems of the country's nuclear plants by the DAE and its agencies, including the Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL), &ldquo;particularly with a view to ensuring that they would be able to withstand the impact of large natural disasters such as tsunamis and earthquakes.&rdquo;<br /><br />Meanwhile, in the context of fresh fears about the proposed nuclear plant in Maharashtra's Jaitapur, Minister of State for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh said: &ldquo;The NPCIL is relooking at its safety systems, relooking at the design. Of India's 20 nuclear power reactors, 18 are indigenous Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors. Two reactors at Tarapur, TAPS-1and TAPS-2, are Boiling Water Reactors of the type being operated in Japan.
