Jharkhand to get one-day-per-week bank in every panchayat

The Reserve Bank of India has agreed to Jharkhand's request for banks having at least one-day-per-week branch in every panchayat to help beneficiaries draw wages under MGNREGA and money under social security schemes, a senior official said here today."The RBI has agreed to our request that banks should make efforts to open at least one-day-per-week branches in panchayats so that withdrawing wages under MGNREGA, (money under) social security and scholarships will be easier," Chief Secretary A K Singh told newsmen here. With the process of elections for panchayat starting on Wednesday, Singh said out of 4,400 panchayats, buildings for panchayat secretariat at about 2000 panchayats have already been constructed while funds have been released to complete the structures for the rural bodies at the earliest."Jharkhand will be one of those states where all panchayats will have panchayat secretariat," Singh said. The five-phase panchayat elections, which last held 33 years ago, will begin November 27.
