They had withdrawn the agitation after the chief minister announced a special package for the development of Kandhamal.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">&quot;The state government has been showing a lackadaisical attitude to our repeated demands. Kandhamal tribals threaten agitation

-The Times of India   The Kui Samaj Samanyaya Samiti, a tribal outfit in Kandhamal district, on Sunday warned to resume their agitation in the district as the state government has not yet fulfilled their sundry demands during the last three years. The demands include action against persons availing of tribal benefits with fake certificates, restoration of tribal lands from non-tribal people and withdrawing cases registered against the tribals in the riots that erupted in the aftermath of the assassination of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati on August 23, 2008. In 2007, the outfit had agitated in the district, highlighting problems faced by the tribal people. They had withdrawn the agitation after the chief minister announced a special package for the development of Kandhamal. "The state government has been showing a lackadaisical attitude to our repeated demands. We can't tolerate this any more and will be forced to resort to our agitation once again," said general secretary of the organization, Lambodar Kanhar. Addressing a tribal rally at Phulbani, he also demanded all the government posts in Class III and IV categories to be reserved for candidates from the district. Kanhar also demanded immediate withdrawal of cases booked against many tribals in the aftermath of the Kandhamal riots. "Hundreds of tribal people were booked by police on false charges of involvement in the riots," he said. Tribals from across the state attended the rally, held amid tight security. At least five platoons of police forces were deployed to maintain law and order during the event.
