The Laadli girl child welfare scheme has proved to be a big success with 140,006 girls being registered under it in 2009-10 and as many as 17,085 girls receiving the final maturity payment through their bank accounts, Delhi Social Welfare Minister Kiran Walia said here on Tuesday.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Speaking about the performance of various social welfare schemes during the year, Prof. Walia said the scheme of pension to widows has also been replaced with a new one that covers all women in distress and thus includes widows, divorced, separated, abandoned and deserted or destitute women. Under this scheme, a pension of Rs.1,000 is being paid.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
To ensure the security, safety and overall development of women, the Delhi Government has started a number of welfare schemes and programmes, Prof. Walia said, adding that her department has initiated a project to make the city free of violence against women and girls in partnership with UNIFEM and Jagori, an NGO working for women&#039;s causes.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;ldquo;A draft strategic framework has also been prepared to identify the intervention required and the departments responsible for taking measures to enhance the safety of the women,&amp;rdquo; she said.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The Minister said 22 work centres have been made functional in various resettlement colonies where the training in cutting, tailoring and beauty culture is being imparted by qualified instructors. The Department of Women and Child Welfare is also running Industrial Training Institute diploma courses in cutting and tailoring in some of the centres.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Prof. Walia said the Delhi Government is also running a short stay home for women in distress, a widow home for destitute women and an after care home for destitute girls above 18 years of age. In all, she said, there are 54 destitute women and 62 destitute girls in these homes.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
A helpline is operational at 23379181 to provide counselling over telephone. Legal advice is also provided in cases of emergency and a field unit is rushed to handle the situation.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In 2009-10, the Minister said, this helpline received nearly 10,000 calls on various issues affecting women such as abuse, rape, emotional distress and problems related to adjustments within the family.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Prof. Walia said the Department of Women and Child Welfare is now also running nine crises intervention centres, which provide a support system to victims of rape. Apart from this, the Rape Crisis Cell remains operational round-the-clock and aids and assists victims and their families by providing emotional counselling, assistance in filing FIRs and follow-up.&lt;br /&gt;

Stating that this cell is presently handling about 1,000 cases, the Minister said it can be reached at 23370557.&lt;br /&gt;

                <br /><div align="justify"><em>A number of welfare schemes for women launched, says Minister<br /></em><br />The Laadli girl child welfare scheme has proved to be a big success with 140,006 girls being registered under it in 2009-10 and as many as 17,085 girls receiving the final maturity payment through their bank accounts, Delhi Social Welfare Minister Kiran Walia said here on Tuesday.<br /><br />Speaking about the performance of various social welfare schemes during the year, Prof. Walia said the scheme of pension to widows has also been replaced with a new one that covers all women in distress and thus includes widows, divorced, separated, abandoned and deserted or destitute women. Under this scheme, a pension of Rs.1,000 is being paid.<br /><br />To ensure the security, safety and overall development of women, the Delhi Government has started a number of welfare schemes and programmes, Prof. Walia said, adding that her department has initiated a project to make the city free of violence against women and girls in partnership with UNIFEM and Jagori, an NGO working for women's causes.<br /><br />&ldquo;A draft strategic framework has also been prepared to identify the intervention required and the departments responsible for taking measures to enhance the safety of the women,&rdquo; she said.<br /><br />The Minister said 22 work centres have been made functional in various resettlement colonies where the training in cutting, tailoring and beauty culture is being imparted by qualified instructors. The Department of Women and Child Welfare is also running Industrial Training Institute diploma courses in cutting and tailoring in some of the centres.<br /><br />Prof. Walia said the Delhi Government is also running a short stay home for women in distress, a widow home for destitute women and an after care home for destitute girls above 18 years of age. In all, she said, there are 54 destitute women and 62 destitute girls in these homes.<br /><br />A helpline is operational at 23379181 to provide counselling over telephone. Legal advice is also provided in cases of emergency and a field unit is rushed to handle the situation.<br /><br />In 2009-10, the Minister said, this helpline received nearly 10,000 calls on various issues affecting women such as abuse, rape, emotional distress and problems related to adjustments within the family.<br /><br />Prof. Walia said the Department of Women and Child Welfare is now also running nine crises intervention centres, which provide a support system to victims of rape. Apart from this, the Rape Crisis Cell remains operational round-the-clock and aids and assists victims and their families by providing emotional counselling, assistance in filing FIRs and follow-up.<br /><br />Stating that this cell is presently handling about 1,000 cases, the Minister said it can be reached at 23370557.<br /><br /></div>               </font>

$disp = '<br /><div align="justify"><em>A number of welfare schemes for women launched, says Minister<br /></em><br />The Laadli girl child welfare scheme has proved to be a big success with 140,006 girls being registered under it in 2009-10 and as many as 17,085 girls receiving the final maturity payment through their bank accounts, Delhi Social Welfare Minister Kiran Walia said here on Tuesday.<br /><br />Speaking about the performance of various social welfare schemes during the year, Prof. Walia said the scheme of pension to widows has also been replaced with a new one that covers all women in distress and thus includes widows, divorced, separated, abandoned and deserted or destitute women. Under this scheme, a pension of Rs.1,000 is being paid.<br /><br />To ensure the security, safety and overall development of women, the Delhi Government has started a number of welfare schemes and programmes, Prof. Walia said, adding that her department has initiated a project to make the city free of violence against women and girls in partnership with UNIFEM and Jagori, an NGO working for women's causes.<br /><br />&ldquo;A draft strategic framework has also been prepared to identify the intervention required and the departments responsible for taking measures to enhance the safety of the women,&rdquo; she said.<br /><br />The Minister said 22 work centres have been made functional in various resettlement colonies where the training in cutting, tailoring and beauty culture is being imparted by qualified instructors. The Department of Women and Child Welfare is also running Industrial Training Institute diploma courses in cutting and tailoring in some of the centres.<br /><br />Prof. Walia said the Delhi Government is also running a short stay home for women in distress, a widow home for destitute women and an after care home for destitute girls above 18 years of age. In all, she said, there are 54 destitute women and 62 destitute girls in these homes.<br /><br />A helpline is operational at 23379181 to provide counselling over telephone. Legal advice is also provided in cases of emergency and a field unit is rushed to handle the situation.<br /><br />In 2009-10, the Minister said, this helpline received nearly 10,000 calls on various issues affecting women such as abuse, rape, emotional distress and problems related to adjustments within the family.<br /><br />Prof. Walia said the Department of Women and Child Welfare is now also running nine crises intervention centres, which provide a support system to victims of rape. Apart from this, the Rape Crisis Cell remains operational round-the-clock and aids and assists victims and their families by providing emotional counselling, assistance in filing FIRs and follow-up.<br /><br />Stating that this cell is presently handling about 1,000 cases, the Minister said it can be reached at 23370557.<br /><br /></div>'
