                <p align="justify"><font >A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by a bunch of farmers against acquisition of their agricultural land and the government&rsquo;s food security policy triggered intriguing remarks from the Delhi High Court, which wanted to know what &ldquo;kind&rdquo; of farmers they were. </font></p><p align="justify"><font >The petition was filed by the farmers against acquisition of their land in Kanjhawala. The petitioners contended that the move was against the government&rsquo;s food security policy. The petition also sought a white paper on the issue from the Centre. </font></p><p align="justify"><font >But a Division Bench of acting Chief Justice Madan B Lokur and Justice Mukta Gupta wanted to know for certain the motive behind the PIL. &ldquo;Do you have photos of the houses of these farmers?&rdquo; Justice Lokur asked the petitioners&rsquo; counsel. &ldquo;We want to know what kind of farmers they are because we know there are different kinds of farmers in Delhi: there are farmers who own big houses and are not involved in farming at all. Land acquisition: HC raises doubt on ‘kind’ of farmers

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by a bunch of farmers against acquisition of their agricultural land and the government’s food security policy triggered intriguing remarks from the Delhi High Court, which wanted to know what “kind” of farmers they were.
