She said that the CBI had always been misused by the party ruling at the Centre against political rivals and for political gains. Mayawati agreed with most of the demands of Team Anna for a strong Lokpal but at the same time also placed some conditions. She said that the selection committee and the Lokpal institution should have representation of Dalits (Schedule Castes) and other marginalised groups of society.&lt;br /&gt;

Mayawati also said that the Centre should bring a strong Lokpal but at the same time keep in mind the federal structure of the country as provided in the Constitution. The statement is being viewed as an opposition to any move of the Centre to impose Lokayukta bill on the states. She described the Lokpal report drafted by the committee headed by Congress MP Abhishek Manusighvi as weak and ineffective and supported Anna Hazare's demand of including prime minister under Lokpal's jurisdiction. She also said that her party was in favour of bringing group C and D employees under Lokpal.<br /><br />The BSP supremo said that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) should also be brought under Lokpal. She said that the CBI had always been misused by the party ruling at the Centre against political rivals and for political gains. Mayawati agreed with most of the demands of Team Anna for a strong Lokpal but at the same time also placed some conditions. She said that the selection committee and the Lokpal institution should have representation of Dalits (Schedule Castes) and other marginalised groups of society.<br /><br />Mayawati also said that the Centre should bring a strong Lokpal but at the same time keep in mind the federal structure of the country as provided in the Constitution. The statement is being viewed as an opposition to any move of the Centre to impose Lokayukta bill on the states. Two days after major opposition parties extended their support to the demand for a strong Lokpal (ombudsman) as proposed by the anti-graft crusader Anna Hazare during his one day fast at Jantar Mantar, Uttar Pradesh (UP) chief minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati also offered her conditional endorsement. Mayawati on Tuesday rejected the Parliamentary Standing committee's report on Lokpal bill. She described the Lokpal report drafted by the committee headed by Congress MP Abhishek Manusighvi as weak and ineffective and supported Anna Hazare's demand of including prime minister under Lokpal's jurisdiction. She also said that her party was in favour of bringing group C and D employees under Lokpal. The BSP supremo said that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) should also be brought under Lokpal. She said that the CBI had always been misused by the party ruling at the Centre against political rivals and for political gains. Mayawati agreed with most of the demands of Team Anna for a strong Lokpal but at the same time also placed some conditions. She said that the selection committee and the Lokpal institution should have representation of Dalits (Schedule Castes) and other marginalised groups of society. Mayawati also said that the Centre should bring a strong Lokpal but at the same time keep in mind the federal structure of the country as provided in the Constitution. The statement is being viewed as an opposition to any move of the Centre to impose Lokayukta bill on the states. She said that her party would oppose the Lokpal version brought by the Centre at the all-party-meet on Wednesday and in Parliament. The chief minister said that the Congress led UPA government at the Centre had been protecting corrupt ministers and officials. She said that a series of scams in UPA II showed that the Congress was neck deep in corruption. In comparison, she said, the BSP government had taken action against its own ministers and MLAs whose names figured in corruption and criminal cases. Maya's outburst against the Congress on Lokpal and corruption issue has come on Tuesday when Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi started his second phase of UP campaign highlighting corruption under Mayawati's government. Rahul has said that the Congress would make corruption as the main issue in the UP assembly elections due in next few months.
