NDA representatives at the meeting insisted on the investigative independence of the CBI and its complete disassociation from government. <br /><br />The all-party meeting was essentially aimed at hearing out the views of various political parties on the anti-graft body. BJP, Left and BSP insisted that the Bill should be brought in the current session of Parliament. <br /><br />However, finance minister Pranab Mukherjee in his concluding remarks said the government had heard all the views and will bring a bill after factoring in these sentiments. This may take some time, he said. There was some convergence of opinion in favour of bringing the prime minister, albeit with safeguards, and lower bureaucracy under the Lokpal's ambit. <br /><br />However, the lower bureaucracy proposal did not find favour with CPI, with its leader Gurudas Dasgupta demanding a separate mechanism to deal with &quot;crores of such employees&quot;. CPM demanded that even the conduct of MPs inside Parlaiment should be brought under the ombudsman's ambit, even though all other parties disagreed on this. <br /><br />On Lokayukta, there was a collective view that a model Lokayukta bill should be sent to the states, who should be then allowed to make their own respective versions of the Act.
