Mining in the name of desilting agricultural land or lakes has also been stopped by imposing stringent regulations, which were announced in the budget speech.&lt;br /&gt;

The policy is expected to find out a solution for sustainable mining in the State. &amp;ldquo;There is no feeling that the mining should be stopped in the State. The focus is on regulating it and having it in a sustainable manner,&amp;rdquo; a senior official said.&lt;br /&gt;

Sources also stated that it is unlikely that the policy would be kept open for objections and suggestions from the public. &amp;ldquo;We will take stakeholders into confidence before finalising the policy but it is not mandatory to invite suggestions and objections,&amp;rdquo; he said.&lt;br /&gt;

Manohar Parrikar, who heads the Mining Department, is yet to hold meeting with the officials on the matter of mining policy.                 <p>-Herald</p><div align="justify">PANJIM: The major issues faced by farming community due to run offs from the mining rejects are likely to be taken care of in the State Mining Policy, which will take shape by May end.<br /><br />Highly-placed sources stated that the State government is yet to take a call on whether to go ahead with the draft mining policy formed in 2008 or draft a new policy. The newly-inducted state government has given a commitment to get the policy in place by May end.<br /><br />The 2008 policy, which continued to be a draft, has not paid any interest towards farm lands that were getting affected with mining. <br /><br />The new policy, said a senior official, will touch upon the crucial aspects like dust pollution, damage to the agriculture, run offs into the field and illegal transportation of mining besides the usual issues concerning the mining industry.<br /><br />Goa government has already hinted at several points that would be the part of mining policy, during its budget presentation. The State has said that the run offs from the mining rejects affecting the farms or agricultural lands would be auctioned and money earned would be ploughed back in rejuvenating these marooned parts of farms. <br /><br />Mining in the name of desilting agricultural land or lakes has also been stopped by imposing stringent regulations, which were announced in the budget speech.<br /><br />The policy is expected to find out a solution for sustainable mining in the State. &ldquo;There is no feeling that the mining should be stopped in the State. The focus is on regulating it and having it in a sustainable manner,&rdquo; a senior official said.<br /><br />Sources also stated that it is unlikely that the policy would be kept open for objections and suggestions from the public. &ldquo;We will take stakeholders into confidence before finalising the policy but it is not mandatory to invite suggestions and objections,&rdquo; he said.<br /><br />Manohar Parrikar, who heads the Mining Department, is yet to hold meeting with the officials on the matter of mining policy. But there are presumptions that certain good parts from earlier policy drafted in Digambar Kamat regime and few points from Centre&rsquo;s Mines and Minerals Regulation Development (MMRD) Act would be embedded in the Goa document.<br /><br />The fate of dumps piled up at various points across the State has already been sealed by the State Government. The senior officials claimed that there is no possibility of allowing the dumps to be handled, till mining policy is in place.</div>               </font>
