Monkeypox cases in India: UP govt on alert, beds reserved in Covid hospitals

-IndiaToday.in

According to sources in the health ministry, surveillance will be increased for people coming in from countries where monkeypox has become prevalent.

The Uttar Pradesh government Tuesday ordered the administration to reserve beds for monkeypox in Covid-designated hospitals across the state. Although no monkeypox case has been reported in the state so far.

The officials in all hospitals have been asked to adhere to the Centre's guidelines.

The decision comes on the day sources told PTI that international travelers with monkeypox symptoms will be sent to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital from Delhi airport. Delhi reported the first case of monkeypox on Sunday.

The patient, who has been admitted to the city's Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital, has no history of foreign travel. And, it is the fourth confirmed case of the disease being reported in India.

On Saturday, the WHO declared monkeypox a global public health emergency of international concern.
